Both Officers and soldiers of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) with the noble intention of giving a helping hand to the promotion of education among students of low-income groups in the peninsula, generously supported an SFHQ-J initiated scholarship programme for 418 selected students after voluntarily donating cash.
A special ceremony for distribution of those scholarships, each worth Rs 9,000.00 among 418 students, took place on Sunday (8) at the famous Jaffna Weerasingham Hall, presided by Nallai Atheenam, Srilasri Somasunthara Thesika Paramacharya Swamigal, Hindu priest as the Chief Guest, together with Major General Jagath Alwis, Commander, SFHQ-J. Mr Ricky Silva, a resident in the UK has sponsored a segment of this fund in memory of his late parents.
Those students who are entitled to receive Rs 750.00 every month under this scheme now, were selected on the recommendations of respective school Principals and Gramaseva officials.
51 Division Headquarters at the request of the SFHQ-J organized the event, attended by religious leaders, community leaders, education officials, state officials, Principals, teachers, parents and a large gathering.
