  • New Holiday Bungalow at Kilinochchi Opened

    A new holiday bungalow, erected facing Iranamadu tank in Kilinochchi for the use of officers and other ranks in the Army was opened on Monday (10) after a brief ceremony. Construction of these holiday bungalows for all ranks was directed by the Commander of the Army as an extension of Army welfare measures. 11 Engineer Service Regiment (ESR) troops as well as 24 Gemunu Watch (GW) troops jointly erected the new holiday resort with two furnished rooms at a cost of Rs 2 million.

    Sri Lanka Army’s 11 Field Engineers lent their machinery to the Wildlife Conservation Department at Vavuniya in order to rescue an elephant, fallen and trapped in a well dug for cultivation purposes in Muthiyankaddu village area in Mullaittivu.   • President Promotes Army Commander to Four Star General

    HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has promoted Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya VSV USP ndu psc to the rank of General, to be effective retrospectively from 1st June 2013. General Jagath Jayasuriya is the 19th Commander of the Army. He assumed office on 15th July 2009, months after the war against terrorism was brought to completion. General Jagath Jayasuriya had been the Commander, Security Forces Wanni since August 2007......

    The new Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ mess at 61 Division Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) was opened during a simple ceremony on Thursday (13). Major General Boniface Perera, Security Force Commander - Wanni as the Chief Guest opened the new building in Vavuniya after house warming rites and rituals.
