  • New Adjutant General Maj Gen Hathurusinghe Takes Office


    Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe assumed office as the new Adjutant General at Army Headquarters on Thursday (16) during a brief ceremony. Buddhist religious observances, performed by Ven Daranagama Kusaladhamma Nayaka Thero of Sri Sambodhi Viharaya and members of the Maha Sangha, invoked blessings on the new appointment after Major General Hathurusinghe, made offerings to the Buddha.

  • Vallipunam Re-settlers Get Free Spectacles


    Resettled villagers at Vallipunam village in Mullaittivu after a recent mobile eye clinic where they got their eyes examined, received 100 pairs of spectacles, following the good offices of Dr Saumya Karunaratne of ‘Love All - Serve All Foundation’. Distribution of those spectacles took place at Vallipunam holiday resort during the clinic which was held during morning hours.

  • New Master General Ordnance Begins Work


    Major General L.B.R Mark assumed duties as the new Master General Ordnance at Master General Ordnance (MGO) Branch at Army Headquarters on Friday (10). Major General Mark was the former Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) before he was appointed to this new appointment at Army Headquarters.
     
  • Army Shooters Champion at Defence Services Shooting Tournament


    Sri Lanka Army shooters registered a convincing victory during the three-day (Jan 11-13) long Defence Services Shooting Tournament, organized by Army Small Arms Association at Diyatalawa firing range. It was the first time in the Army history, both men and women shooters secured championship.
     
  • Army Baseball Players Beat DS Knights


    Army Baseball Team did it again, wining the second match in the Sri Lanka National Baseball League Championship – 2013 Tournament, organized by Sri Lanka Amateur Baseball/Softball Association at Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa grounds on Sunday (12). The first match was also earlier won by Army baseball players against the team, Frontiers with 20-2 points.

  • Unsung Hero Rescues Little Girl's Life Jumping Into Pamankada Canal


    Rescuing a life under any circumstances is indeed a heroic deed. It becomes more so when it relates to a life of a little girl. It was unbelievable but it happened close to Pamankada with a miraculous mediation of a soldier who never thought twice about himself.  This soldier-driver, Lance Corporal D.B.J.K. Jayalath of 1 Field Engineer Regiment of Corps of Engineers who lives in Pamankada area was on his way to the Army camp on Saturday (11)
