  • Army Engineers Help Restore Disrupted Train Service

     
    Army Engineers serving Nuwara Eliya sector, as is the Army practice in case of any national emergency or disaster, rushed to the 124 km post area between Nanu Oya and Great Western railway stations on Colombo - Badulla railway line on Monday (12) at about 10.30 a.m. and cleared a few huge boulders that had fallen on the track, stalling train passage between those two destinations. 
     
  • 222 Brigade Troops Offer Community Help

     
    Troops serving 222 Brigade in Jayanthigama, Kantale conducted a series of community-oriented and meritorious projects with the support of several donors in the civil sector in the past few weeks. At Jayanthigama Jayabodhi Viharaya, troops gave away pairs of spectacles to 157 civilians who have impaired vision after they were selected from medical clinics, conducted at this temple itself and Ichchalanpattu Government Hospital earlier.

  • Service Corps Taekwondo Athletes Win the Day & Carries Away Championship


    The Army Taekwondo Championship Award ceremony, subsequent to the successful completion of the three-day (Sept 8-11) long Taekwondo Tournament, took place Monday (12) evening at the Panagoda Army Cantonment gymnasium. Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya as Chief Guest and His Excellency Choi Jong Moon, Ambassador for South Korea as Guest of Honour participated in the award ceremony, amidst a large gathering of senior Army Officers, Taekwondo athletes and invitees.

    Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya who arrived at New York’s UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations on Friday (16) en route for Haiti to inspect Sri Lanka’s contingent of Peacekeeping troops, kept to his itinerary and had a cordial round of talks with Ms Susana Malcorra, Under Secretary General of the Department of Field Support at UN Peacekeeping Headquarters.
