  • SFHQ-KLN Troops Listen to Lecture on 'Child and Women Rights'


    An awareness seminar to educate tri service and Police personnel on ‘Child and Women Rights’ took place at Nelum Piyasa Auditorium at Kilinochchi, following arrangements organized by the Ministry of Child Development and Women’s Affairs on Wednesday (28). More than 250 tri service and Police personnel attended for the awareness programme.


  • SLLI Veteran Brigadier Benadict Silva (Retd) Passes Away


    The death of another most-admired and illustrious senior officer, Brigadier S Benadict Gabriel De Silva (Retd) of Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI), occurred on Tuesday (27) after a brief illness. Famed for his affable personality and multifaceted social service projects while in service and particularly after retirement, Brigadier De Silva remained a very popular figure in his home town, attracting the goodwill of everyone who knew him. His was a service unparalleled in the SLLI of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), specially during the crucial stages of the country in 1980s due to political upheavals where he was the District Coordinating Officer for Polonnaruwa, Ampara, and Puttalam in separate time periods.


  • Tri-Servicemen's 'Veterans' Home' Receives a Surprise Guest



    A group of tri-service veterans, now in their dotage at the Veterans’ Home in Bolagala, Katana, managed by Ex-Servicemen’s Association, were awestruck by the presence of a special visitor to their home of rest and recreation on Thursday (29) with a bagful of gifts and surprises. 
     
  • Trainees in Basic Media Course Awarded Certificates in Grand Ceremony

    With the sheer intention of providing a wider perspective and exposure to the fast changing subject of Mass Communication and Media, the Army Headquarters-based Directorate of Army Media jointly with the Government Information Department (GID) of the Ministry of Mass Media and Information, provided a one-month long Media training to a group of 47 Army personnel, for the first time in the Army history.

    Another exciting round of the Ranaviru Real Star Mission IV (RRS) reality show was staged last evening at the Air Force auditorium in Ratmalana. Running for the fourth consecutive season the country's only reality show for the members of the armed forces, RRS provides a platform for them to highlight their hidden vocal talents. 

  • Troops Serving SFHQ-Central Attend Lecture on 'Human Rights'


    Troops serving the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) listened to a special lecture on ‘Human Rights’, delivered by Mr I.W.M Jagath Wickramasinghe, Coordinating Officer, Human Rights Commission, Badulla at the auditorium, of Gemunu Regiment (GW) Battalion Headquarters, Diyatalawa organized by SFHQ-C on Thursday (29).
  • Troops Buy Coffin for the Needy Family


    Extending its humanitarian assistance for a bereaved family offered it mediation and provided coffin for a burial of a 5 years old baby who did following a lighting attack. Major General Jagath Dias, Commander Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT), directed 68 Division to assist the funeral arrangement by buying a coffin and other requirements of the bereaved family.
     
  • Army to Re-Launch Fight Against 'Dengue' on Commander's Instructions

     On the directions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, a comprehensive cleaning campaign to wipe out the threat of resurgence of Dengue epidemic in Puttalam and other surrounding areas in western province-based Army formations and Army residential quarters, will come into effect, beginning Monday (June 2, 2014) from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. The cleaning programme to be launched under the close supervision of Major General U.A.B Medawela, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West).....

  • First Army Divisional Volleyball Court Inaugurated in Vavuniya


    With the firm resolve of raising the National Game, Volleyball to international standards, Sri Lanka Army is to erect volleyball courts in all Divisions with 1000 seating capacity in each according to a conceptual notion, proposed by Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army.

  • Army, Navy & Airmen Assist Flood Victims in Kalutara District & Clear Roads


    Sri Lanka Army Directorate of Operations responding to inclement weather conditions and floods that are raging in Kalutara District, particularly in areas such as Meegastenna, Pelawatte, Agalawatte and adjoining areas, has taken steps to provide the victims with cooked food packets and alternative housing arrangements until the weather returns to normal.
