  • Commander Inspects Army Exhibits Ready for 'Deyata Kirula'



    As final arrangements in connection with the forthcoming ‘Deyata Kirula – 2014’ mega development exhibition at Kuliyapitiya are drawing to a close, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, together with a host of senior officers, inspected the Army exhibits on the site Wednesday (12) afternoon. To ensure all exhibits are in place, giving a new outlook, different from previous ones, the Commander, visited all the stalls, being erected by different regiments, characterizing special features, applicable to each regiment.

    Award of 100 more scholarships, each worth Rs 5000/= to students of War Hero families under the annual scholarship award - 2014 project of the Seva Vanitha Army Unit (SVAU), took place Thursday (13) morning at BMICH with Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the SVAU.

  • New Dental Unit & Kitchen Complex Opened


    With the objective of improving oral health of Army personnel and their family members in Ampara area, a new dental unit, set up at Combat Training School (CTS), Ampara was recently opened by Brigadier S. S. Waduge, Commandant, CTS. The new dental unit was constructed under the guidance of Major General Lal Perera, Commmander, Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ - E). This was a long-felt need of Ranaviru families.
     
  • Signallers Facilitate Return of Fishermen to Abandoned Jetty


    Troops of 6 Sri Lanka Signal Corps (6 SLSC) deployed at Gurunagar area took measures to clean the old Ceynor jetty which remained unused. The move was to help fishermen to anchor their boats in the jetty. The jetty remained unusable for a long time due to garbage dumped around the jetty, inconveniencing fishing folk of Gurunagar to use it.

    An unannounced visit the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake made to the Sri Lanka Army Band Complex at Maitland Place, Colombo 7 on Wednesday (12) morning, enabled him to see for himself how those Army "entertainers" are provided with their basic amenities such as billets, furniture, training places, sanitary needs, kitchen utensils, essential musical instruments, etc.
