  • Visiting Pakistan's Senior Army Team Calls on Army Commander

    A visiting four-member military delegation of the Pakistan Army on Thursday (12) paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at Army Headquarters. The delegation, led by Lieutenant General Ayaz Salim Rana during their goodwill tour, met Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development on Wednesday (11) before their itinerary in Sri Lanka began.

    Commanding Officers (COs) of all battalions of the Sri Lanka Army around the country met with the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya on two separate days and  received commendations and assessment of their ongoing roles and tasks. Early this week, all 274 Commanding Officers on staggered basis for two days listened to the Commander who extolled continuing ‘good work’ of all the field commanders.
     
     
     
     
  • Countdown to 'Defence Seminar - 2012' Begins: Army to Continue Its Post Recovery Projects as Any Other Army Does

     
    More than 63 countries in the world have been invited to attend the three-day ‘Defence Seminar - 2012’ in Colombo with a view to sharing and discussing post-conflict experiences on the road to recovery and reconciliatory moves, designed for long-lasting peace and stability, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army told a media conference at Army Headquarters Wednesday (11) evening.
  • Dry Rations Distributed Free of Charge

     
    Resettled civilians living in remote Avarantalawa and Paleruwa in the 211 Brigade Headquarters area received dry ration parcels, each worth about Rs 2000/= due to donations extended by Kelaniya Rotary Club and a group of Canadian philanthropists. Distribution of those 250 gift parcels took place at Awaranthalawa Chethiyagiri Raja Maha Viharaya, following co-ordination done by the 211 Brigade.
     
  • Task Force - 3 Organized Football Tournament Ends

     
    More than 30 school and civil-sector football leagues in the Ampara district took part in a football tournament recently, following co-ordination, done by the troops serving Task Force - 3 at Akkaraipattu on directions given by the Security Forces Headquarters - East. The finals at Ampara Weerasinghe playground got off the ground on Tuesday (10) amidst a large gathering of sportsmen and women.....

    The Chairperson of the Ministry of Defence Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa official handed over the first prize, a house worth Rs 17 million to the winner of 'Ranaviru Real Star -Mission 2', Lance Corporal Ayomi Perera of the Sri Lanka Army at a ceremony held at Battaramulla today (15th July).   • 'Tharunyata Hetak' Sponsored Medical Camp Treats Patients

     
    More than 25 medical specialists, 40 medical officers, together with 170 members of the medical staff recently conducted a full-day medical clinic at Thirukkovil Thampiluvil Vidyalaya, following a request made by the Security Forces Headquarters East.   • Army Resolves Water Diversion Issue

     
    Following initiatives taken by the Army, farmers as well as animals in drought-hit Lahugala and Panama areas are to receive water from the Muthukandi reservoir. Farmers in Pottuvil, Lahugala and Panama sanctuary area pointed out that the prolonged drought continues to affect their farming and animal life and highlighted the need to divert a section of water to those areas, curtailing the daily quantum, being pumped to them three times a week.
     
  • Eye Clinic Treats More Than 500

     
    A special eye clinic, meant for civilians living in Asikulam area in Vavuniya, examined more than 500 patients and provided spectacles to the needy. The office of the Civil Affairs under 211 Brigade Headquarters area coordinated the project with the patronage received from Kelaniya Rotary Club and a group of Canadian donors.
     
  • More Community Assistance Awarded

     
    622 Brigade Headquarters-organized one more community project got underway recently covering Kokkuthuduvai and Karavaddukerni villages under the Maritimepattu Divisional Secretariat in 22 Division area. 31 push bicycles, chickens for 24 families, one sewing machine, water carrying pipes, all worth over Rs 745,000/=  were distributed among civilians in those areas with the support given by the non-governmental organization, ‘Zoa’.
