  • Third Cavalry Supercross Excites & Thrills Sports Racing Enthusiasts


    The thrilling third Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) organized ‘Cavalry Supercross’ stormed the Pangolla racing track at Kurunegala Sunday (3), amidst a sea of racing enthusiasts, headed by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, the pioneer of the event who graced the occasion as Chief Guest. This third ‘Cavalry Supercross’, a novel experience project of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps on this 60 ft wide 1.4 km long gravel track with 5 corners....  

     
  • Attidiya 'Mihindu Seth Medura' for Dependent War Heroes Marks Its First Anniversary

    Ministry of Defence initiated ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’, the wellness resort for life-time care of dependent War Heroes at Attidiya, Dehiwala, turned one year old on May 30, 2012. A series of commemorative programmes to mark the milestone in its life span, got underway Wednesday (30) evening, giving pride of place to an all-night Pirith Chanting, religious rites and rituals. 
     
  • Cornerstone for the Next Phase of 'Sanda Hiru Seya' at Anuradhapura Laid after Placing New Statue

     

    One more phase of the ‘Sanda Hiru Seya’ (pagoda dedicated for fallen War Heroes), now under construction at Anuradhapura sacred area, close to Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi premises, commenced Tuesday (5) morning with the participation of the project’s pioneer, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development as the Chief Guest, together with tri-service Commanders and the IGP. The day’s auspicious ceremony saw the cornerstones for erection of the Salapathala Maluwa (layer paved with stone slabs) of the Pagoda were laid and a marble-made Buddha statue with a tray for offerings was unveiled for public veneration in the Sanda Hiru Seya Bo tree premises by distinguished guests for the occasion. The Buddha statue was a gift from the resident Burmese monk at Anuradhapura, following coordination done by Ven. Pallegama Siriniwasabhidana Nayaka Thero.....

  • Navatkuli Students Taken on Army Organized Educational Tour

     
    Nearly 100 students of Jaffna’s Navatkuli Sakalakalavallavan Vidyalaya, Navatkuli Maha Vidyalaya and Kovilakkandy Government Tamil Mixed School, situated in the 523 Brigade area, added an unforgettable day to their school career a few days back when all of them were taken on an educational trip by the Army.
     
  • 56 Division Conducts Poson Full Moon Poya Programmes with Donations

     
    People in the area, ahead of the 56 Division Headquarters along the A-9 road in Vavuniya were treated to Kottamalli (Coriander) drinks on account of the Poson Full Moon Poya Day after a special Dhamma sermon was organized with the participation of Kokkeliya village devotees. Officers and other ranks enthusiastically contributed to the conduct of the Dansela throughout the whole evening. A large number of people enjoyed the hospitality and generosity of the Army troops.
     
  • Kilinochchi Civilians Visit Poson Zone & Enjoy Free Meals

     
    A special ‘Poson’ Zone, organized in the Kilinochchi Madya Maha Vidyalaya playground drew a record gathering of spectators and students in the area. ‘Poson’ Zone, comprised of a pandol, rice and ice cream Dansel, presentation of devotional songs, display of lanterns and a replica of the Mihinthale rock, etc adorned the premises on Poya day (4).
