US based ‘Namaste’ organization in coordination with the Colombo Rotary Club have come forward to introduce and award an interest free loan to resettled villagers, living in Ichchankulam, Vellankulam, Parakatukallu, Kalmadu, Marathamadu and Iranailuppai areas.
Under the programme, Mr S. Rathnasingham, a well-known donor has made deposits available for the loan scheme at the request of the 611 Brigade Headquarters serving those areas. Accordingly, 85 financially affected families were granted Rs 50,000 each for generation of self-employment projects during brief ceremonies held in respective areas.
The loan repayable in installments is to be obtained from the nearest Bank of Ceylon branch in respective areas. Brigadier K.G.D Perera, Commander, 611 Brigade, representatives of both ‘Namaste’ organization and the Colombo Rotary Club and leading citizens in the area assembled to witness the distribution of those loans.
