  • KDU Symposium on 'Sharing Knowledge for Sustainable Peace' Inaugurated

    The third annual symposium, organized by General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) for the express purpose of ‘Sharing Knowledge for Sustainable Peace’ among researchers and scholars got underway Friday (20) morning at the KDU auditorium with the participation of Secretary to HE the President, Secretary Defence, Tri-service chiefs and a host of other distinguished guests.

  • 'Abimansala' Progress Reviewed

    The construction work of Abimansala, the wellness resort to house 52 totally dependant disabled War Heroes has made rapid progress mainly due to unstinting support the project received from the donors. ‘Abimansala’ is funded under Brave Hearts project, the brainchild of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, and amply backed by the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), presided by Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya.

    The thrilling first-ever Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) organized ‘Cavalry Supercross’ stormed the new Pangolla racing track at Kurunegala Sunday (29) evening, amidst a sea of racing enthusiasts, headed by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya who graced the occasion as Chief Guest. This inaugural ‘Cavalry Supercross’, a maiden project of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps.....

  • Sinha Regiment Team Carries Championship in Tennis Tournament

    Sinha Regiment Tennis players emerged champions at the Army Inter Regiment Tennis Tournament-2010, held at  Panagoda on 27 August 2010, the final day of the tournament. The Chief Guest, Major General Crishantha De Silva distributed the awards to the winners in the finals. Chairman, Army Tennis Committee, Major General Chandana Rajaguru also represented Sinha Regiment team along with its star player Colonel Ramesh Fernando who led the team to victory.

  • Commander Unveils Cenotaph to Honour Fallen Heroes

    The first-ever War Hero monument in the Eastern Security Force Command area to honour valiant soldiers who have laid down their lives fighting the separatist terrorist in the 30 year long war was declared open by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya on 28th August in Minneriya amidst a gathering of many distinguished guests and family members of the War Heroes. The monument erected in a scenic sitting in the vicinity of the historic Minneriya tank remind of all who travel to the East through Minneriya, of the sacrifices made by the heroic soldiers in defending the integrity of the motherland.

  • 22 Division Soldiers Add Their Weight to National Dengue Eradication Campaign

    Army officers and soldiers serving the 22 Division in Trincomalee added their weight to ongoing island-wide Dengue eradication programme. Trincomalee town and its outskirts including Anuradhapura junction, Singhapura, Andamkulam and 4th mile post that come under the Uppuweli Public Health Inspector’s supervision were covered during this one-day cleaning campaign by Army soldiers with the support of the general public.

  • Court Martial - 2 Postponed

    The Court Martial - 2 probing charges against G.S.C. Fonseka resumed its sittings Tuesday (31) afternoon. Medical Officer intimated to Court that the accused was not fit to be present for the proceedings. Hearing was postponed until Wednesday (1st September) at 2.00 p.m. (Ends)   

  • One More New NGO Takes to Demining in North at Army Request

    The current demining projects in the north were to have more and more teeth as one more Non Governmental Organization (NGO) joined the bandwagon in order to expedite and further expand ongoing humanitarian demining roles, following an initiative taken by Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi. The latest and the newest NGO, Delvon Assistance for Social Harmony (DASH) with a team of about 29 deminers a few days ago inaugurated its maiden project in areas surrounding the strategic Elephant Pass

  • Court Martial - 2 Postponed

    The Court Martial - 2 probing charges against G.S.C. Fonseka resumed its sittings Wednesday (September 1st) afternoon. Medical Officer for the second consecutive day intimated to Court that the accused was not fit to be present for the proceedings. Hearing was postponed until Friday (3rd September) at 2.00 p.m.

  • Torched LTTE Aircraft Parts Concealed in Container Uncovered

    Troops of the 19th Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) in a startling recovery in the general area of VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL,   AMPALAWANPOKKANAI uncovered several torched LTTE light aircraft parts that had been hurriedly kept hidden inside a container, most probably during the peak of the battles in Wanni.Those burnt parts, according to Sri Lanka Air Force belonged two light aircraft engines or gliders.
