Troops of the 19th Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) in a startling recovery in the general area of VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL, AMPALAWANPOKKANAI uncovered several torched LTTE light aircraft parts that had been hurriedly kept hidden inside a container, most probably during the peak of the battles in Wanni.
Those burnt parts, according to Sri Lanka Air Force belonged two light aircraft engines or gliders. Among other components that have been so far identified included two gear levers, pedals and a few other accessories.
It is believed that LTTE terrorists during the final stages of the humanitarian operations had burnt those aircraft parts in a hurry as they were fast losing the grip on the ground. Those parts had been kept concealed in a big rusty metal container when the information regarding it reached the Army troops.
Sri Lanka Air Force arrived at the scene and took charge of those parts for further investigations. Sri Lanka Air Force investigators are still conducting investigations into this stock of recoveries.
The information on the presence of these components has been however conveyed to an Air Force officer by an informant when the Air Force officers visited the area for another assignment.
