  • Prosecution Closes the Case

    The Court Martial – 2 probing charges against G.S.C. Fonseka resumed its sittings Monday (23) as scheduled. Prosecution closed the case this afternoon after the completion of recording evidence from all witnesses. Defence counsel appeared for the accused. The sittings will resume on 26th at 3.00 pm.

  • Commander Unveils Cenotaph to Honour Fallen Heroes

    The first-ever War Hero monument in the Eastern Security Force Command area to honour valiant soldiers who have laid down their lives fighting the separatist terrorist in the 30 year long war was declared open by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya on 28th August in Minneriya amidst a gathering of many distinguished guests and family members of the War Heroes. The monument erected in a scenic sitting in the vicinity of the historic Minneriya tank remind of all who travel to the East through Minneriya, of the sacrifices made by the heroic soldiers in defending the integrity of the motherland. The Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Jayasuriya was warmly welcomed by the Commandant of the Infantry Training Centre Minneriya, Brigadier Asoka Amunugama on arrival and ushered him to the venue which was followed by a brief welcome speech by Brigadier Amunugama. Thereafter, the Chief Guest was accompanied to the monument where he unveiled it, made on granite plaque with engravings stating that the monument was declared open in honour of fallen Heroes who fought bravely to eradicate ruthless terrorists.

Minister of Economic Development Mr Basil Rajapaksa on tour to both Vavuniya and Mannar districts chaired these rounds of meetings.....

  • Cardiologists Treat Nattankandal Patients

    The well-known cardiologist, Dr. Ruwan Ekanayake along with another team of medical officers and assistants from the Colombo National Hospital recently held a full-day medical clinic at Nattankandal Government Hospital in Mullaittivu district for the benefit of newly resettled people and villagers.The clinic, organized by 61 Division troops with the blessings of Major General G D H K Gunaratne Commander.....

    Sri Lanka Sinha Regimental Centre at Ambepussa, deviating from its routine formalities recently, did spouses and family members of late senior War Heroes the honour of visiting Elephant Pass, Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaittivu areas where their beloved warriors laid their lives for the sake of the unitary status of the country several years ago.   • Defence Makes A Submission to Court

    The Court Martial – 2 probing charges against G.S.C. Fonseka resumed its sittings Thursday (26) at 3.00 p.m. as scheduled. Defence Counsel made a submission to the Court that Defence would be calling up witnesses when the Court resumes its sittings on Friday (August 27th) at 3.00 p.m.  

  • Army-Police Joint Effort Unearths Large Cache of Ammunition

    Soldiers of 681 Brigade in a combined effort with the Special Branch at Nuwaraeliya Police recovered a cache of ammunition yesterday (26) from Wellamullivaikkal in Mullaitivu District. There ammunition are believed to have been kept concealed by LTTE terrorists during find days of the battle in which they were crushed by the Sri Lanka Army.

  • Defence to Call up Witnesses

    The Court Martial – 2 probing charges against G.S.C. Fonseka resumed its sittings Friday (27) afternoon. Defence Counsel intimated to Court that Defence will call up their witnesses when sittings commence again on 31st August at 2.00 pm. (Ends)

  • Army Shooters Clinch Handgun Championship

    Sri Lanka Army team clinched the year’s championship in National Handgun Championship 2010, held at ICSP range at Welisara Naval Base on Sunday (29). HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa witnessed the event as Chief Guest in the company of the First Lady Mrs Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Tisara Samarasinghe and Inspector General of the Police Mahinda Balasuriya. The Championship has been organized by the National Rifle Association of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Army Team, showing exceptional skills as in previous years emerged champions amidst cheers.
