SVAB Initiated Mobile Arrangement Launched to Resolve Issues Related to Disable War Heroes

The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), intending to resolve issues pertaining to war-affected disable War Heroes in a rather down to earth manner, had its first ‘mobile service’ arrangement at Ambepussa Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) Headquarters on Thursday (26).

The project, the first of its kind in the SVAB history was the brainchild of Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President SVAB who works tirelessly to see this unique project too a success, in addition to the SVAB fund-raising responsibilities, being carried out on behalf of the ongoing ‘Abimansala’ construction at Anuradhapura under ‘Brave Hearts’ project for the benefit of disable War Heroes.

Thursday’s (26) mobile service at Ambepussa awarded a few hundreds of SLSR disable Officers and Other Ranks the chance of directly meeting most senior officers from the Army Directorate of Welfare, Directorate of Additional Welfare, Directorate of Medical Services, Directorate of Rehabilitation, Directorate of Pay & Records and a few other wings in the Army of direct relevance and concern to them in order to find solutions for their burning issues on the spot without sticking to time-consuming formalities.

Several disable War Heroes attending the occasion sought assistance for the speedy grant of Army loans that have been applied by them but still in waiting while several disable War Heroes aired their grievances on planned completion of their partly-built houses and non-availability of either an own house or a plot of land to call for themselves.

Different separate panels that gave patient hearing to those disable War Heroes throughout Thursday (26) identified and evaluated their problems and promised them speedy action as most of the decision-makers in the Army were also associated with the day’s arrangement at Ambepussa. The occasion also permitted those disable War Heroes to find counseling and different guidelines for various problems in their personnel home fronts, educational sphere of their children, social and cultural issues, health care, etc.

The SVAB, planning to further expand its scope in the same direction, has also requested all relevant authorities in the Army to review and amend existing provisions as regards release of housing loans to disable soldiers.

On the same occasion, Mrs Jayasuriya, promptly responding to several requirements such as completion of partly-thatched roofs, purchase of water pumping machines or plastic water tanks, etc gave an undertaking to do the needful as soon as possible on behalf of the SVAB with the support of donors and philanthropists in the civil sector. The SVAB after this inaugural phase of the project expects to visit other Regimental Headquarters with this mobile arrangement and meet permanently disable War Heroes.

Following the conclusion of the day’s mobile service, Mrs Jayasuriya took time off to further interact with disable War Heroes after visiting various projects being carried out by them at the Regimental Headquarters premises. Those War Heroes at present are engaged in projects such as production of confectionaries, milk related products including yoghurt, leather products, coir items inclusive of brooms, ropes and jute bags, etc.

Mrs Jayasuriya after closely observing the paper production unit run by those War Heroes requested them to further promote the quality and standards of their products, enabling her to find a ready market for those products with the help of businessmen outside.
