  • 64 Division Donates Cement To Kovil Development


    Troops serving the 64 Infantry Division, Oddusudan together with civilians in the area, marked the commemoration of Thai Pongal day in a special ceremony on Monday (16 January). The special ceremony at Kachchilmadu Kovil, organized with a view to promoting reconciliation, multi cultural and multi ethnic co-existence saw donation of 25 bags of cement made to the development of the Kovil premises.

    Singer (Pvt) Ltd, honouring its pledge of support to the proposed, ‘Abimansala 2’ for dependent War Heroes at Wilpitawatta, Udumulla in the South, donated its contribution of Rs 5.25 million for construction of one Villa in the wellness resort to Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army on Tuesday (24).   • Army Opens Its Newest Academy, OCDC Exclusively On Warfare & Defence Management Studies

     
    By establishing yet another academic seat of excellence for career development, themed purely on Defence Management Studies and Art and Science of Warfare, the Sri Lanka Army on Monday (23) added one more glorious chapter to its annals when Mr Lalith Weerathunge, Secretary to the President, unveiled a plaque and ceremonially opened its newest Officers’ Career Development Centre (OCDC) at Buttala, the island’s only state-of-the-art faculty for warfare and defence management studies. Its concept, mooted by the incumbent Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya was realized consequent upon the ever-increasing interest and the need for a forum of this relevance at both local and international levels.
     
  • Crab-rearing Project For Ex-Combatants Making Progress

     
    Crab-rearing project jointly implemented by former LTTE combatants and Jaffna troops in Karampan, Kayts as a commercial venture, is fast progressing with the financial blessings of the Northern Province Governor’s Office. Office of the civil affairs in Jaffna with instructions received from Secretary Defence and Commander of the Army, commenced the project three months ago .....
     
  • Brigades Under 52 Division Celebrate Thai Pongal With Hindu Devotees

     
    Large numbers of Hindu devotees in Jaffna and Wanni joined hands together with troops to celebrate the recent Thai Pongal ceremony that gave pride of place to religious offerings and cultural performances. 521, 522 and 523 Brigades under 52 Division in Varani, Jaffna with the participation of cultural troupes from Vigneshwara Vidyalaya, Uduppiddi American Mission Girls School, Nelliadi Central College, Alwai Sinnathambi Vidyalaya.....
     
  • Army Swimmers Win Overall Championship

     
    Sri Lanka Army swimmers participating in the open swimming competition, organized by Negombo ‘Tiger Shark’ swimming club won the overall Championship (male) beating 27 school clubs and swimming clubs in the country. The Army team also won the trophy for the Best Team out of tri-service and Police teams who attended the tournament. In addition, the medal awarded for the Best Disable Sportsman was also won by Private S.M Prashantha of 5 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. The Army’s Staff Sergeant R.K Priyantha of 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment received the medal for the Best Oldest Sportsman.
     
  • Troops Prepare Basket Ball Court for Adampan Central College

     
    Troops serving the 54 Division at Thalladi, Mannar took initiatives and recently prepared a Basket Ball court for students at Adampan Central College. The court done with the Army machinery and equipment was handed over to the school authorities on Thursday (19) at a simple ceremony, attended by Brigadier M.A.M Dias, General Officer Commanding, 54 Division, school authorities, state officials, 543 Brigade Commander and a gathering of civilians attended the occasion.
     
  • SVAB Entertains Inmates At 'Mihindu Seth Medura'


    Inmates at Attidiya ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’ where disable War Heroes are housed were entertained to a special treat by members of the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) on Monday (23). Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB spoke to all the inmates and shared their concerns on various matters of relevance to them, their families and other assistance. She also found solutions to a few issues then and there in consultation with senior officers who accompanied her.

  • President Opens New Building Complex at Defence Services College

     
    President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Thursday (26), joining the 5th Anniversary celebrations of Sri Lanka’s one and only Defence Services College (DSC) for children of War Heroes during a brief ceremony, gifted one more new five-storeyed building to its  students for further expansion of their studies. The DSC, founded in 2007 for the benefit of children of tri-service and Police families, on a concept mooted by Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development......
