  • Fellow Woman Soldiers & Commander, SFHQ-MLT among Mourners


    In what could be considered as another gesture of reconciliation and fellowship, the Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT), offered its assistance for the conduct of funeral arrangements of a newly-recruited Tamil woman soldier’s brother who recently died following a terminal disease while under treatment at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
  • Army Troops Conduct Relief Programmes


    Troops of 62 Division under the Security Force Headquarters Wanni (SFHQ-W) distributed drinking water among drought victim belonging to 714 families in Ethawetunuwewa, Kalyanipura, Nikawewa, Monarawewa, Ehetugaswewa, Gajabapura, Weherathenna, Kambiliwewa, Konwewa, Kohombagaswewa and Weherawewa under the kind patronage of the SJMS Association on Tuesday (12).

  • Army's 'High Altitude Training Centre' for Runners Adds a New Chapter to Army Athletics



    The ‘High Altitude Training Centre,’ (HATC) atop Piduruthalagala, the newest and exceptional project of the Army, considered to be perhaps the only one in kind in the whole of South East Asia, was inducted into the skills of marathon running Friday (15) afternoon during a brief ceremony, headed by Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, the pioneer behind realization of this state-of-the-art Centre for long running training.
     
  • Army Supports Conduct of 'Vehi Piritha' Chanting


    A group of Buddhist monks, headed by Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha, Maha Nayaka Thero of Asgiriya Chapter and Ven. Daranagama Kusaladhamma Thero of Colombo 07 Sri Sambodhi Viharaya chanted Vehi Pirith (chanting for rains) at Galviharaya, Polonnaruwa and conducted the distribution of a stock of relief items and water among drought-hit areas in Polonnaruwa on Wednesday (13).

    On his way back from Nuwara Eliya after opening the first of its kind, High Altitude Training Centre atop Pidurutalaga for long running practices, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army made a surprise visit to the Sri Lanka Military Academy Friday (15) evening in order to inquire into the well-being of newly recruited professionals of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) now under training.

    Making its entry to a rather new sphere of sports that would boost endurance, mental harmony and physical fitness, ‘Indoor Rowing’ among Army personnel is fast gaining popularity, as witnessed on Saturday (16) for the third time at Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) during the Army Inter-Regiment Indoor Rowing Championship Tournament -2014.
