  • 55 Division Renovates Shine Room to Mark 'Esala' Poya Day


    On the directions of Major General A Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division renovated the Shrine room at 55 Division Headquarters and took the new Statue of Lord Buddha in procession to place in the shrine on account of ‘Esala’ Poya Day (12). Amid chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ 3 monks including Ven. Pothanagama Somarathne, Chief Incumbent of Weerasekararamaya, Pandulagama, Anuradapura, blessed the event.

    A wide assortment of gifts, including deeds for blocks of land and new houses, financial grants for completion of partly-built houses or for renovations, artificial hands and legs, wheelchairs and automatic chairs, laptops and computers, medical appliances, scholarship grants, medicine, sports accessories, etc, valued over Rs 18 million, were awarded to 759 War Heroes, War Hero families, ‘Abimansal’ (1, 2 and 3) and ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’ inmates, following initiatives, taken by the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) at the Army Headquarters on Thursday (17) as the Phase - 2 of the project.

  • Curtains Come Down on SLAVF Athletic Championship

     

    More than 3000 sports-loving officers and other ranks in the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) vied with each other in the finals of the Inter Regiment Athletic Championship Tournament, held during July 15-17 at Colombo Sugathadasa Stadium. The tournament, competed by 20 male teams and 5 women’s teams, belonging to 103 Volunteer Battalions, saw its closing ceremony on Thursday (17) evening.....
     
  • 'Aradhanawa' Staged to Promote Understanding & Reconciliation

     
    To be in line with the government’s social integration week, the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) launched a series of projects in the past one week.  Educational Divisional Office, in close cooperation with civil organizations and the SFHQ-MLT staged the ‘Aradhanawa’ cultural spectacle, drawing school students of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim ethnicities on July 12 with the participation of students of 66 schools in the Mullaittivu District.

  • Monks Invited to Begin Rainy Retreat


    Members of the Maha Sangha, now returned to the ancestral sacred site at Nayaru, Mullaittivu on account of the forthcoming ‘Vas’ (rainy retreat) were invited to remain in the place in keeping with age-old Buddhist traditions during a brief ceremony on Saturday (12), ‘Esala’ Full Moon Poya Day.  Ven Seruwila Saranatissa Nayake Thero, Incumbent Seruwila Raja Maha Vihara, together with two other monks, accepted the invitation to be at that temple during the rainy retreat.....
