  • Army Troops to Construct New 3 Storey Building at 'Dharmayathanaya'


    Bauddhaloka Mawatha, ‘Dharmayathanaya’, one of Colombo’s Buddhist places of worship, headed by Ven Elle Gunawansa Thero is to be further expanded and improved turning it to be a fully-fledged religious site. At the auspicious 11.44 a.m. on Thursday (29) the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya laid the cornerstone for construction of the three-storied building of this sacred place that houses the monastery (Sanghawasaya), dining hall (Dāna Shalawa) and the retreat hall.

    The annual concert of the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) - managed Manning Town and Panagoda ‘Viru Kekulu’ pre-schools got underway on Monday (26) at Defence Services College (DSC) auditorium. First Lady, Mrs Shiranthi Rajapaksa at the invitation of Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

    The year’s scintillating musical fiesta, ‘Tharu Dilena Reyak III’, the fund-raising musical extravaganza of the Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) with a galaxy of popular vocalists and artistes, will be on the boards at Nelum Pokuna on 29th December for the express purpose of harnessing financial support for construction of 'Abimansala' wellness resorts for dependent War Heroes and their welfare.

  • Wanni Headquarters Marks Its 14th Anniversary


    Giving pride of place to religious ceremonies and respect to the War Hero monument, the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W) commemorated its 14th anniversary with a string of community-oriented projects during November 22-23 on the directions of Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W).
  • Kelebogaswewa Resettled Families Receive Relief Items


    One more donation of essentials plus educational accessories to civilians and school students in the resettled Kelebogaswewa village area took place on Thursday (29). An estimated group of 238 families received kerosene oil chimney lamps, clothes, garments, kitchen appliances, school books and a few other essentials during this brief ceremony in the village area.

    50 Wanni-based school students received books and school accessories, together with 31 scholarships, each worth Rs 2000/= during a ceremony, organized by 61 Division Headquarters at Maravankulam Vidyalaya in Vavuniya on November (28). Those items, donated by generous donors, following coordination done by the 61 Division on the instructions of the Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W)....
  • Troops Donate Blood at Hospital's Request


    In response to the dearth of blood, projected by the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital’s provincial Blood Bank in Mannar, troops serving the 54 Division readily obliged to the need and launched a blood donation campaign at 54 Division Headquarters, Mannar on Full Moon Poya Day (Nov 27). Over 175 officers and soldiers volunteered to donate blood at that occasion in front of a medical team....
  • Army Coordinates Loan Distribution Project


    A sum of Rs 1.5 million, made available by Colombo Rotary Club in coordination with the Presidential Task Force, was distributed among 29 Wanni civilians as interest-free loans, meant to further improve their self-employment projects, agricultural promotion and infrastructure development. The event took place at the 611 Brigade Headquarters on Wednesday (28).

    Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army visited Defence Services Command & Staff College (DSCSC), the prestigious academic platform for tri-service officers at Sapugaskanda Monday (3) morning and delivered the year’s customary ‘Commander’s Address’ to the student officers as the guest speaker. Upon his arrival at this seat of military learning that promotes the professional knowledge and understanding both in command and on the staff.....
