  • Batticaloa Students on Picnic to Hambantota and Kataragama

    40 STUDENTS from Kondachchimadam Sri Vinayagar Maha Vidyalaya and Kurumancheri Shiva Shakthi Maha Vidyalaya in Batticaloa went on an educational tour to Hambantota and Kataragama areas in the south following an initiative taken by 234 Brigade Headquarters with the support of the Civil Coordinating Officer Lieutenant Colonel T.M.S Tennakoon for the area. Army troops helped in organizing the tour. In addition, teachers and parents of those students participated in this three-day tour between 4th - 6th December 2009. 

  • US Welcomes IDP Resettlement

    THE United States welcomes the Government’s progress in the resettlement process, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs and former US Ambassador for Sri Lanka, Robert Blake said yesterday. He emphasized that his overall assessment of his visits to Menik Farm and the demining areas in Mannar, was that the current situation was very agreeable. “The United States,” he stated, “welcomes the recent progress by the Government of Sri Lanka to return a majority of these Sri Lankans home and allow increased freedom of movement to those still in camp.”

  • India Welcomes Relaxed Restrictions on IDPs


    INDIA has welcomed the initial steps taken by the Sri Lankan Government to relax movement and travel restriction on IDPs. It also expressed the hope that the IDPs would resume their livelihood and return to a life of normality. This observation was contained in a joint press statement on the visit of a high level Sri Lankan delegation to India on December 9 and 10.   • Army Donates TVs to Former Tiger Combatants Under Rehabilitation

     
    COMMANDER Security Forces, Wanni (SFHQ - W) Major General Kamal Gunarathna handed over five colour TVs, five DVD players plus antennas and boosters to Major General R.M Daya Rathnayake, Commissioner General of Rehabilitation for the use of former LTTE child combatants under rehabilitation on Thursday (10) during a brief ceremony held at SFHQ - W auditorium. The donation, worth about Rs 6 lakhs has been organized as part of the second phase of a series of Army donations, being made from donations, .....
  • Ceremony for School Text Book Distribution Held in Jaffna

     
    THE NATIONAL ceremony for distribution of school text books for the year 2010 was held in Jaffna on Wednesday (9), attended by several cabinet ministers. Ministers Susil Premajayantha (MP), Anura Priyadarshana Yapa (MP), Douglas Devananda (MP), Nirmala Kotalawala (MP), and M Sachithranandan, Deputy Minister for Education who flew to Jaffna were received by Major General L.B.R. Mark, Commander, Security Forces, Jaffna at the Palaly air base. .
  • -œRankekulu- Pre-school Enjoys X'mas Carol

    KIDS at Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) managed “Rankekulu” pre-school at Anuradhapura conducted X’mas carol on Thursday (10). The chief guest for the occasion Mrs. Chithrani Gunarathna, the wife of Major General Kamal Gunarathna, Commander Security Forces, Wanni was welcomed by two kids at the pre-school. Kids presented X’mas carol and showed their colours afterwards.

    LIEUTENANT GENERAL Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army with a view to taking stock of the current progress at Batalanda Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) visited it this morning (11) where he spoke to senior tri-service officers under training. Lieutenant General Jayasuriya was welcomed by Major General N.A. Ranasinghe, Commandant, DSCSC on arrival and invited to visit different sections in the college, as the first part of the day’s itinerary. Lt. Gen. Jayasuriya met senior officers reading for degree courses at DSCSC under different curricula and inquired into their academic attainments and progress.     

  • Army Medical Team Treats Civilians

    56 DIVISION troops, headed by Brigadier N.A.P.C Napagoda, organized a special medical clinic for a team of displaced people who have just returned for resettlement. It was held at Puliyankulam Vidyalaya in Vavuniya on Thursday (10) where 39 civilians received medicine and consultation from the Army Medical team. The project was supported by Major General Kamal Gunarathne, Commander Security Forces, Wanni.   

  • Gajaba Regiment Seva Vanitha Conducts a Medical Clinic

    THE SEVA VANITHA Unit of the Gajaba Regiment with the coordination of its senior member Mrs Saranki Dias on 5 December 2009 organized a medical clinic for War Heroes who became disabled or mentally affected during the humanitarian operations in the Senapura Army Camp. This medical clinic was conducted by Dr. Mrs Priyanjali De Soysa, a psychologist cum lecturer at the Medical Faculty of Colombo University. During this clinic she interviewed disabled and mentally affected War Heroes and gave solutions to the mental complications they undergo. She also lectured them on a wide range of issues covering Post Conflict Mental Health and Conflict Experiences.
