  • UN, European Nations Angry With LANKA for Defeating Tigers

    THE UN, and many European nations, are very angry at Sri Lanka for defeating the separatist Tamil rebels, after nearly 30 years of fighting. The UN, and particularly Norway, were trying hard to work out a peace deal. The Tamils, represented by the LTTE (an organization eventually recognized as an international terrorist group) refused to budge on their demand for partition of the island. A decade ago, the LTTE controlled a third of the island, although Tamils are only 13 percent of the population. It used to be 18 percent, but many have fled because of the LTTE violence, and government attempts to cope. Three years ago, fed up with over a decade of failed peace efforts, the government was determined to crush the LTTE and regain control of the entire island.

  • Officers in SFHQ-W Completes English Course

    An English proficiency course, meant to improve English standards among officers serving under the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), reached its successful completion on Wednesday (11). The 25-day long course, organized on a proposal made by Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W was followed by 18 officers.

  • Felicitation of Two Royal Commanders

    ROYAL College Colombo will felicitate two of its distinguished sons today on the 04th of August 2009.The 19th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lt.Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya, USP, ndu, psc  & the 16th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, RSP, VSV, USP, ndc, psc, DISS ,two finest products of  Royal College , who passed out from this hallowed institution in 1977 & 1973 respectively will be felicitated by the Royal community. The two commanders are to be received by the cadet band and escorted in procession up to the Royal College War Memorial. The commanders will offer floral tributes at the war memorial in remembrance of the fallen Royalists, who laid down their lives in the battle to protect the sovereignty & the territorial integrity of Sri Lanka.

  • East Celebrates New Year with Renewed Vigour

    THE Sinhala-Hindu New Year spirits in the east showed a dramatic increase this year when thousands of civilians thronged the Weber Stadium at Batticaloa to take part in New Year celebrations organized by Army troops serving the area. The event, organized by Brigadier L.M Mudalige, Brigade Commander, 234 Brigade and Senior Officers on the instructions of Brigadier M.H.S.B Perera, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division was held on the theme, ‘Negenahira Udanaya-New Year Celebration’.

  • 19 Former LTTE Combatants Given Loans for Self-employment

    A brief ceremony for award of interest-free loans to some 19 rehabilitated former combatants, enabling them to commence their own self-employment projects, took place on Saturday (30) at 62 Division Headquarters in Vavuniya. Each rehabilitee under this loan scheme, initiated with sponsorship, provided by Mr Chutta Ratnasingham of Canada-based ‘Namasthe’ organization received an interest-free loan of Rs 50,000/= each during the occasion.
  • Commander Extends his New Year Greetings

    Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, addressing Officers, Non Commissioned Officers, Other Ranks and civil staff at the Army Headquarters extended his New Year wishes to all ranks of the Sri Lanka Army and their families in connection with the Sinhala and Hindu New year. Army Chief, during his address Monday morning (18), paid sincere gratitude to Officers and Other Ranks who are away from their loved ones during the festival season.....
