  • Awareness Programme on Traffic Control to Mark World Day of Social Justice

    15 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) organized an awareness programme on ‘Traffic Control’ to make aware students of the Vellamkuam Roman Tamil Mixed School in cooperation with the Illuppukadewai Police Station. It was organized to mark the world day of social justice on Friday (20) with the participation of two Police officers, SLSR troops, teachers and students.
  • Huge Accidental Explosion Claims Many Lives

    BATTICALOA: Around 20-30 Police personnel, attached to KARADIYANARU Police Station in BATTICALOA and 2 Chinese nationals were believed killed this morning (17) when a stock of explosives, kept for safety in the Police Station compound exploded by accident. Preliminary reports said a Chinese company, engaged in construction and development work in the area has left 3 container loads of explosives, in the Police Station compound for safety and security.

  • No Fear of Baseless War Crime Charges: President

    PRESIDENT Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday said that attempts to frame ‘war crime charges’ against security forces commanders at international tribunals by certain international elements and their local agents will never be a success as long as he remains the Commander in Chief. Addressing a UPFA election propaganda rally held at the Pelwatte Sugar plant premises yesterday, President Rajapaksa said some political leaders took great efforts to let the LTTE off the hook when they had been cornered by the security forces on May 18 and 19.

  • Sri Lankan Contingent Busy Clearing Blocked Roads & Treating More & More Patients

    The relief and rescue contingent, comprised of Sri Lanka’s Army, Navy, Air Force and Civil sector consultants, now engaged in post-earthquake humanitarian services in Nepal has treated 81 injured earthquake victims, cleared debris and rubble and succeeded in re-opening three major roads, remained not movable in Dolalghart and Bodgam areas during the past two days (May 3 - 4)........

  • First SVAB Pre-school in East Opened

    The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) sponsored first pre-school in the East was declared open Monday (24) morning at the 3 Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps camp premises at Minneriya Army cantonment. Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB, the livewire behind the expansion of educational opportunities among children of War Hero families with the support of her organization, graced the occasion as Chief Guest for the opening. This is the 8th pre-school to be run by the SVAB.

  • Deeghawapiya Temple Receives Army Patronage for Its Development Work

    Sri Lanka Army, which has been in the practice of lending all possible assistance to various places of religious significance, offered its patronage to the sacred Deeghawapiya at Ampara once again on Monday (25) when the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, called at the temple.
  • Search Operations Collect more Claymores

    WANNI & WEST: ARMY TROOPS on search and clear operations in the general areas of  KILINOCHCHI, VISUAMADU, PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU, VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL, AMPAKAMAM, WELIOYA and VADORAMULLA recovered two 81 mm mortar bombs, one anti personnel mine, ten claymore mines each weighing about 1.5 kg, one claymore mine weighing about 5 kg, one claymore mine weighing about 2.5 kg, five 82 mm mortar bombs, fourteen 60 mm mortar bombs, four T-56 weapons, twenty six magazines, four hand grenades.....

  • Several Welfare Projects Launched

    Several formations under the Security Force Headquarters-East (SFHQ-E) carried out several Welfare Projects during June 25-26. 231 Brigade troops under the 23 Division organized a Blood Donation Campaign at the 231 Brigade Headquarters in Kallady on 25 June. A total of 98 Army personnel attended this event and offered blood.
