    It is with a great sense of pride that I extend my good wishes to all Sri Lankans on the occasion of the Victory Day celebrations which is considered as their new day of independence, states Prime Minister D M Jayaratne in a Victory Day message. The message adds: “It will be no exaggeration if each and every Sri Lankan citizen described the Victory Day which dawned exactly three years ago as the day they were born anew. ‘I wish to emphasise that the best tribute we can pay to our departed War Heroes who sacrificed their lives in defence of the nation.....

  • New Housing Project for Displaced Families in Koslanda Miriyabedda


    Under the new development vision of the government, distinguished guests including Mr. P Digambaram, Minister of Estate and Infrastructure Development, Mr. Harin Fernando, Chief Minister of Uva Province  and Commander  Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C)  placed the foundation stones on Sunday (1) for construction of a new housing project at Punagala Estate  for the victims in Miriyabedda landslide.... 
     
  • UN, European Nations Angry With LANKA for Defeating Tigers

    THE UN, and many European nations, are very angry at Sri Lanka for defeating the separatist Tamil rebels, after nearly 30 years of fighting. The UN, and particularly Norway, were trying hard to work out a peace deal. The Tamils, represented by the LTTE (an organization eventually recognized as an international terrorist group) refused to budge on their demand for partition of the island. A decade ago, the LTTE controlled a third of the island, although Tamils are only 13 percent of the population. It used to be 18 percent, but many have fled because of the LTTE violence, and government attempts to cope. Three years ago, fed up with over a decade of failed peace efforts, the government was determined to crush the LTTE and regain control of the entire island.

  • New Jaffna Commander Assumes Office

    MAJOR General L.B.R Mark assumed office as Commander, Security Forces, Jaffna this morning (28) after a brief ceremony, attended by religious dignitaries and senior Army and tri-service officers. Major General L.B.R Mark succeeds Major General G.P.R de Silva who assumed duties as Chief of Staff, Joint Staff-Office of the Chief of Defence Staff in Colombo. On his arrival at the Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J), the new Jaffna Commander inspected the Guard Turn-out accorded to him before he received the Guard of Honor given by the soldiers of 4th Battalion of Gemunu Watch.

  • 57 Division Troops Celebrate Vesak


    Several Formations under the 57 Division Headquarters in the Security Force Headquarters-Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) organized several programmes to mark Vesak Poya Day. 572 Brigade, together with 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) and 6 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops organized a Dansela of biscuits & refreshments.

    The Army Inter-Regiment Cricket Championship-2011, played between Artillery and Ordnance Corps teams Monday (8) evening at Muththukumaru Cricket grounds at Panagoda Army Cantonment, generated a wave of overwhelming enthusiasm and drew a mammoth crowd of cricket fans to the pitch. The convincing Ordnance Corps team emerged Champions in the final encounter recording....
