  • Vavuniya Vesak Decorators Receive Cash Prizes


    Vavuniya Bodhi Dakshinarama Viharaya adorned festive Vesak garbs when Army formations and schools in the area produced a large collection of colourful Vesak lanterns and other decorations, adding colour to the Vavuniya town on account of Vesak. Groups of Vesak Bakthi Gee (devotional songs) presentations meanwhile made by both Army formations and schools were given cash gifts with sponsorships....
  • Ratgama Based Troops Hold 'Dansela'


    Troops serving 533 Brigade Headquarters in Ratgama, Galle organized a commemorative Pinkama plus a Vesak Dansela on account of Vesak festival on Full Moon Day (24). Members of the Maha Sangha invited to the inauguration of the Dansela on Vesak day morning invoked merits and blessings on War Heroes both alive and dead. The Dansela started off after lighting the traditional oil lamp.
  • Widows of Jaffna Get Livelihood Assistance

    Jaffna based-troops launching one more humanitarian mission extended their helping hand to 30 woman-headed families by distributing some Rs 1 million worth of livestock and equipment on Friday (31) in a brief ceremony. This noble project was launched by troops of 551 Brigade under the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna (SF HQ (J)) with the coordination of Mr S. Hettiarachchi, Additional Secretary Ministry of Defence and Urban Development and Lieutenant Colonel G.A.L Kithsiri.....
  • 17 GW Soldiers Quench Pilgrims' Thirst

    17 Battalion Gemunu Watch (GW) troops serving the Kayts Island in Jaffna offered soft drinks to the pilgrims, bound for Nagadeepa across that area. Thousands of pilgrims going to Nagadeepa for worship enjoyed these refreshments at three different locations at Pungudathivu, Karampan junction and Velanai in the Jaffna peninsula.  

  • 22 Div, 222 Brigade & 632 Brigade Troops Join Vesak Celebration

    Troops serving 22 Division and 632 Brigade under Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) on account of Vesak conducted several programmes in their respective areas. A Vesak pandol, exhibition of lanterns, Shramadana campaigns, Dansel and lunch treats to elders’ homes, were among major features that attracted the public attention.

  • 'Api Wenuwen Api' Twelfth Housing Phase Warms 100 New Ranaviru Houses in Matale District


    The twelfth phase of ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ Ranaviru Housing Scheme that saw its birth as a conceptual notion of HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development, in another landmark project, donated 100 more new houses to War Heroes, resident in the Matale District on Monday (3) in a mammoth ceremony, headed by HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Chief Guest.


  • Troops Coordinate Donation of Push Bicycles & Other Community-Oriented Projects


    Seenigama - based ‘Guna Jaya Sathuta Padanama’ (Foundation of Goodness), headed by Mr Kushil Gunasekara once again showed its goodwill and generosity towards people living in Samanthurai Divisional Secretariat and donated 105 push bicycles for distribution among students of low-income group families on Thursday (30). Major General Lal Perera, Security Force Commander-East attended the distribution ceremony as the chief guest.
  • Kilinochchi Students Curious About Lighting Systems Learn More from Pandol


    More than 2500 students from Kilinochchi District took an exceptional interest in the electric technology that has been used in the giant Kilinochchi pandol, erected on account of Vesak (May 24 -31). Estimated 30,000 multi-coloured bulbs glittered continuously for 7 days in the pandol at Kilinochchi playground, erected and funded by tri-service troops and Police personnel serving the district.

  • Army Coordinates Supply of Solar Power Units


    Villagers in No 20 Wattewewa and Herath Halmillewa Grama Seva sectors under Kebithigollewa Divisional Secretariat in the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) began using solar power as an alternative solution to their lack of electricity, thanks to the efforts of Empower Sri Lanka Institute, manned by students at University of Colombo, following initiatives taken by 17 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) of the 62 Division.
