Widows of Jaffna Get Livelihood Assistance

Jaffna based-troops launching one more humanitarian mission extended their helping hand to 30 woman-headed families by distributing some Rs 1 million worth of livestock and equipment on Friday (31) in a brief ceremony.

This noble project was launched by troops of 551 Brigade under the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna (SF HQ (J)) with the coordination of Mr S. Hettiarachchi, Additional Secretary Ministry of Defence and Urban Development and Lieutenant Colonel G.A.L Kithsiri, Commanding officer 5 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) with the sponsorship of Netherlands Alumni Association of Lanka (NAAL). 

10 Cows, 7 goats, 100 chicks, 11 sewing machines and 2 water pumps were distributed among 30 widows whose husbands were lost during the war.

Ven Ananda Thero of Wellawatte Sri Vijayaramaya also donated 6 cows to the project and Mr Wasantha Jayalath who is residing in Australia donated gift parcels for the children who attended the ceremony.

Religious leaders, Major General Mahinda Huthurusinghe Security Force Commander Jaffna (SF HQ (J)), members of NAAL and village heads attended the ceremony.
