The Commando Regiment (CR) of the Army during a glittering ceremony welcomed their new 265 ‘Maroon Berets’ and 85 ‘Long Range Patrol’ (LRP) men of the latest well-trained batches during a ceremonial Passing-out Parade (PoP) at Kudaoya Commando Regiment Training School (CRTS) on Wednesday (March 15). Graced by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the Colonel of the Regiment, Commando Regiment, Major General P.G.P.S Rathnayaka RWP RSP ndc, the dignified ceremony saw 4 Officers and 261 soldiers of the 51 A, B, C, and D batches of the Commando Regiment and 5 Officers and 80 soldiers of the LRP Course No - 17 after their sustained and exceptional training under the tutelage of many veterans and instructors finally passed out showcasing their exciting and unique capabilities and operational techniques that could address unprecedented threats or challenges.

The awarding ceremony of the Army Inter Regiment Drill and Pace Stick Competition - 2022 took place this afternoon (14 Tuesday) at Panagoda Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Parade Square, headed by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The colourful drill and band squads of different regiments rending the air with soothing melodies added grandeur and pride to the occasion as the large crowd of spectators and distinguished guests remained glued to the sequence of the ceremony’s proceedings. The competitions were held during November 15 - 21 in 2022 at respective regimental levels before today’s finals.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army on compassionate grounds responded to an appeal of an Anamaduwa-based father whose 10-year-old Thalassemia-affected son were to undergo an urgent bone marrow surgery, and contributed a sum of Rs. 100,000.00 to the family on Saturday (March 04). The child studying in Grade 05 has been suffering from Thalassemia since 2018 and has been advised to undergo this transplant surgery at the earliest.

The 14th contingent of the Sri Lanka Force Protection Company (SLFPC) in the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL) left for Lebanon early this morning on Thursday (02) amidst greetings and best wishes. The 14th SLFPC contingent, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel D.P.I.T Kaluaggala and 2nd in Command, Major W.M.C.K Wanninayake is composed of 125 Army personnel, including 10 Officers and 115 Other Ranks and four sniffer dogs, ‘Frank’ - (German Shepherd), Jupiter’ (Golden Retriever), ‘Tiger’ (German Shepherd) and Leena’ (German Shepherd) who have been well-trained for detection of narcotics, explosives and mines.
