  • Para-Beach Volleyball National Championship Goes to Sri Lanka Light Infantry Players

     
    The finals of Para-Beach Volleyball National Championship, held for the first time for disable Army sportsmen ended on Sunday (18) at Wadduwa Holiday Resort beach with the participation of a large gathering of sportsmen and enthusiasts. Beach Volleyball was introduced for the first time to the Army para sports calendar a few weeks ago with the Inter Regiment Tournament. There are 13 other sport features that have so far been included and contested in the para sports tournament.....
     
  • Army Coordinates Distribution of Fishing Boats & Nets

     
    The new community centre at Kallapadu fisheries harbour, built by Canadian development aid agency, in collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries was recently opened during a brief ceremony. Ministry of Fisheries under directions of Dr Rajitha Senaratna, Minister of Fisheries and Development of Aquatic Resources carried out a series of fishing community-oriented welfare projects in Silawathura, Kallapadu North, Mahakudailappu and surrounding areas on the same day.....
     
  • Periyamadu School Children Get Donations


    Students at Periyamadu Vidyalaya in Mannar District were gifted with writing books and other school accessories during a brief ceremony recently, held at the school premises. The school with 100s of children from low income families received those gifts following coordination done by 61 Division serving Periyamadu area in the Madu Divisional Secretariat.
     
  • Australian High Commissioner on Tour to North Calls on Jaffna Commander

    The Australian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Ms Kathy Klugman on Monday (19) paid a courtesy call on Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna at the latter’s office, en route to attend a ceremony for handover of houses, built with funds from Australian aid agency (AusAID).   • Blood Collected from Soldiers Given to Vavuniya & Kurunegala Hospitals


    With the sheer intention of providing blood to the patients in Vavuniya, officers, other ranks and civil members serving the 56 Division at Kokkeliya under Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni organized a blood donation camp at 56 Division Headquarters a few days ago. Medical and nursing staff at Anuradhapura hospitals supported the project and made arrangements accordingly. 165 personnel of the 56 Division donated blood during the clinic.....
     
  • Maiden 'Gympo - 2011' Rocks New Track at Thunkama

     
    Racing enthusiasts, Indika Sanjaya and Navin Marapana, the 4x4 pair in their modified Land Rover recently became the cynosure at the maiden Sappers 4x4 Challenge Racing event, ‘Gympo - 2011’ at Thunkama, Embilipititya. The duo sending rays of surprise along the new road track won the overall Championship in the inaugural ‘Gympo - 2011’ at Sri Lanka Military Corps of Engineering Training School.

  • Push Bicycles & Traditional Musical Instruments Gifted


    The ‘Guna Jaya Sathuta Padanama’ (Foundation of Goodness) headed by Mr Kusil Gunewardena, Trustee, in the company of several of its leading members recently took a large stock of gifts to the students and resettled people in Mankulam and Kilinochchi areas. This Foundation which has been providing humanitarian assistance to the North for a long time distributed 210 push bicycles on Saturday (17).......

    Ranaviru Real Star’ (Stage II), the mega reality show that brings musical talents of tri-service War Heroes to the fore is to be a smash hit shortly considering the huge popularity it is gaining as days pass by. Over 3000 Army personnel serving areas under Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi during September 17-19 showed up at Kilinochchi Commando Brigade Headquarters to face initial selection interviews.
