    The latest phase of the Defence Ministry (MoD) initiated district-wise house construction project for War Heroes saw its fruition in Galle District on Saturday (20) with the ceremonial opening of 26 more new houses by His Excellency, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, in the company of Secretary Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Tri service chiefs and a large gathering of invitees including close relatives of tri service War Heroes.

    A joint representation of religious leaders, Tri-services and Police personnel, state administration and local authorities in Mannar took steps on Wednesday (24) to alert the public to a series of anti-social and rumour-mongering programmes, being spread by certain interested parties on various hidden agendas. The meeting organized on the instructions of the Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni.....
     
  • 58 Division Gives Away Gift Parcels to Civilians

     
    Major General K.J Alwis, General Officer Commanding, 58 Division recently attended a brief ceremony to donate a stock of domestic utensils among resettled families in Kilinochchi. Meanwhile, members of the Maha Sangha residing in Kilinochchi Lumbini Vihara were offered alms during a religious ceremony held recently at 58 Division headquarters. Major General K.J Alwis graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
     
  • Workshop on Bee-Keeping Educates Resettled People

     
    A two-day workshop on bee-keeping for resettled people in Kilinochchi took place during August 21 - 22 at Malayalapuram pre-school premises as a measure, meant to find employment. During the sessions, 55 bee boxes were given away to 55 families in the area by the Officer Commanding, 25 Gajaba Regiment. The workshop educated the public on this money spinning domestic industry. Troops also assured support to the public for sale of their products after proper bee-keeping practice gets underway.
     
  • Kilinochchi SFHQ Discusses Security Measures

     
    A meeting with representatives of law-enforcement authorities, headed by Major General Nandana Udawatta, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) took place on Wednesday (24). Taking into consideration of security concerns, developing in some areas, following spread of rumours and fabricated stories by interested scrupulous elements, the meeting discussed measures that should be adopted in the event of any illegal uprisings.....

    Recalling memories of yesteryear when the Jaffna Fort was under siege as terrorists intensified their onslaught against Security Forces, deployed in and around it, Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence on Friday (26) visited Jaffna Fort, spent some time and saw for himself how renovation work was progress there. Mr. Rajapaksa, now on a two-day tour to the peninsula accompanied by Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunathilaka.....

    Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya joined Muslim members of the Sri Lanka Army to celebrate ‘Ifthar’, breaking of Ramadan fast last evening (23) at a fast-breaking event, organized at Wadduwa Holiday Resort, Wadduwa. The event was organized by the Muslims Association of the Sri Lanka Army under the patronage of its President Brigadier M. Z. R. Sallay.....

  • HE Greets War Heroes Who Bagged Volleyball 'Bronze' at World Cup

    Twelve War Heroes who represented Sri Lanka in the World Championship Volleyball Tournament for the disable, held in Cambodia, on July 20 - 30, met HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa Thursday (25) evening at Temple Trees. The Sri Lankan team secured the third place claiming the Bronze medal in the tournament.....

    Peacetime has begun to pay dividends not only among ordinary denizens but also among different layers in the Army, as the most leading military outfit. The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) as one of the most respected units fighting on foot revived the Army’s long-standing tradition of having officers’ Mess Night on Thursday (25) at Kandalama Hotel, Dambulla.....
