    SO, the LTTE has, after one whole week of dithering and prevarication, admitted their leader Prabhakaran is dead. Some LTTE websites even published doctored pictures to mislead the world that he was still alive and kicking. One such photo had an amused Prabhakaran watching his own corpse being shown on television.

  • New High Commissioner Meets Commander Hours after Presenting Her Credentials

    MS. Nimisha J. Madhvani, High Commissioner of Uganda to Sri Lanka, just a few hours after she presented her letter of credence to President Mahinda Rajapaksa Tuesday (26) morning, called on Commander of the Army General Sarath Fonseka at his office in the Army Headquarters. This was the first ambassador to meet the Army Chief after Army’s victory over LTTE terrorism.Focus during the meeting was largely on opportunities for exchange of military training programmes between both.....

  • Foolishness or cunning, Indiscriminate allegations about civilian deaths:

    We are told that the UN claims that about 7,000 civilians have been killed in fighting between the Sri Lankan Forces and the LTTE over the last few months. It is also claimed that 16,700 have been wounded,’according to a UN document given to the Associated Press by a senior diplomat’. This leak is the third in a series which has led to a state of denial by the UN. They claim that they are not responsible for any leaks, though they have still not reported to us on an investigation that was promised into the reports.

  • India and Pakistan Back Lanka in 'Rights Battle'

    INDIA and Pakistan find themselves on the same side with Sri Lanka as Europe accuses Colombo of "war crimes" against the Tamils. A special session of the UN Human Rights Council is due Tuesday in Geneva where Denmark and Britain are leading a vocal and sustained drive to pin down Sri Lanka. The deliberations could extend to Wednesday. The meeting became possible after Denmark got together 17 of the UN body’s 47 member countries to press for the special session to probe.....

  • Russian President Assures Support to Sri Lanka

    RUSSIA will continue to assist Sri Lanka for the restoration of peace and reconstruction of the country, said the President of the Russian Federation Dmitriy Medvedev, in a telephone conversation with President Mahinda Rajapaksa, yesterday. In discussing the current situation in Sri Lanka after the defeat of the LTTE terrorism, President Rajapaksa thanked the Russian President for the considerable assistance given to Sri Lanka in the fight to eradicate terrorism from the country. President Rajapaksa expressed his gratitude to President Medvedev for the support that Russia had extended to Sri Lanka in the UN Security Council, where attempts were made to obstruct the humanitarian operation to free the Tamil civilian hostages from the LTTE, and also for the support given to Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council. 

  • Govt. No Longer Interested in LTTE

    THE SRI LANKAN government yesterday rejected the Tamil Tigers' offer of entering the democratic process after their military defeat at the hands of the security forces. Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa told BBC that the LTTE could not be trusted to give up terrorism. "I do not believe the LTTE can enter the democratic process after years of violence," Mr. Rajapaksa said.  The rebels had said they would give up violence after their leader Velupillai Prabhakaran was killed in the recent fighting in the North. "I am not interested in the LTTE at all," Mr. Rajapaksa -- the most senior civilian official in charge of the war against the Tamil Tigers -- told the BBC in a wide-ranging telephone interview. 

  • Army Devotional Songs Send the Air

    THE annual Vesak Bhakthi Gee (Devotional Songs) programme at the Army Head Quarters got underway  Tuesday (26) evening under the auspices Commander of the Army, General Sarath Fonseka. The chief guest for the occasion was First Leady Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa. Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa and Mrs. Anoma Fonseka were also present. The colourful event, organized on the instructions of Mrs Anoma Fonseka, President Seva Vanitha Army Branch at the Army Buddhist association was attended by a large number of senior officers, other ranks and member of the civil staff.

  • National Victory Parade on June 3

    THE nation's long-awaited victory over terrorism will be celebrated in grand style on June 3, 2009 in a special parade at Galle Face Green under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Security Forces commanders, the IGP and troops who took part in the battle to vanquish LTTE terror, too would take part. Security Forces personnel along with their commanding officers, engaged in direct operations in the recently concluded 'humanitarian operations' in the North and East is expected to take part in a special military parade.

  • A Battle of Humanity Vs Inhumanity

    ALL the tales of misery, agony and horror they experienced are carved in their faces as they were leaving the hell they were living as the LTTE was drawing out their last breath when the valiant troops surrounded them in the last terrain in Karayanmullivaikkal in Mullaitivu. Not that they were allowed to leave but they were rescued by the valiant troops of the Sri Lanka Army after fighting a battle which dragged on for months due to concerns of the lives of these innocent civilians trapped inside this so-called ‘safe zone’.

  • Vesak Brings Happiness to Students at Nufields School for Deaf & Blind

    Dansala (offer of free meals), Vesak programmes and decorations at many places in Jaffna organized by the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SF-J) to mark the 2600 Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi, drew a huge public response. 523 Brigade troops meanwhile marked the event in a different manner, spending two days with students at Nufields School for Deaf and Blind at Kaithady on 18th and 19th May.
