Dansala (offer of free meals), Vesak programmes and decorations at many places in Jaffna organized by the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SF-J) to mark the 2600 Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi, drew a huge public response.
523 Brigade troops meanwhile marked the event in a different manner, spending two days with students at Nufields School for Deaf and Blind at Kaithady on 18th and 19th May.
The school premises before the event was completely cleaned by the soldiers and a friendly cricket match between the students and soldiers, the following day.
General Officer Commanding 52 Division Brig. Anura Sudhasinghe gave away prizes to students. The Army also organized lunch for all 275 including all students, teachers and members of the minor staff of the Nufields school.
On par with the main programmes at the Headquarters SF-J and the Jaffna town, 52 Division of Varani distributed more than 1000 lunch parcels to civilians on 17th May at their Dansala put up in front of the Division Headquarters.
Tea and herbal drinks were also offered to all passers-by on the 18th and 19th by the troops in the 52 Division at the same Dansala. Different locations along the Kodikamam-Point Pedro main road were decorated with Vesak lanterns and colorful electric bulbs.
Hundreds of civilians in the area enjoyed Vesak decorations created by soldiers.
