  • Moon Says No Clear Evidence of Heavy Bombing in Battle Zone

    UN SECRETARY General Ban Ki-moon in an interview with the CNN on his return from the Vanni over the weekend said that there was no clear evidence of the use of heavy weapons on the scene of the final battle. The SLAF said that the UN chief and his entourage had been flown in two helicopters over the areas where the LTTE fought its last battle with the army last week. Meanwhile, the CNN in a story headlined Ban tells CNN: Sri Lanka sites for the displaced ‘appalling’ quoted moon as saying: "I was so sad and I was so humbled by what I have seen.

Under a screaming headline on its website, Ban tells CNN: Sri Lanka sites for the displaced 'appalling', CNN tries to have the world believe that the UN Chief's reported revulsion is at the conditions of the welfare centres for the displaced.

  • UN Secretary General Takes Stock of Relief Villages

    UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon and his entourage who flew to the Settikulam Menik Farm Relief Village in Vavuniya Saturday (23) morning saw for themselves the extensive relief, resettlement and rehabilitation programme in progress and also had an aerial view on areas affected by LTTE terrorism towards the end of the war. Competent Authority for Northern Province and Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army Major General G.A. Chandrasiri after receipt of the UN delegation in the Menik Farm Relief Village presented a comprehensive account of the most recent Rescue Mission, conducted by Security Forces during the final stage of the war against terrorism and various welfare measures now in effect in the welfare centers and Relief Villages.

    SRI LANKAN Army troops were magnanimous in extending their compassion, universal loving-kindness and divine pardon to the arch-enemy who mercilessly assassinated thousands of troops and civilians in the past thirty years. It certainly made a difference in Vavuniya during the weekend (23-24 May) when the Army decided to share more than half of a donation they received with surrendered LTTE women cadres in Rehabilitation Centers for surrendered Tigers in Poonthottam and Nelukkulam areas. The weekend’s huge donation of garments including women’s wear was made to the Army troops by allied members of the BOI (Board of Investment) and Executive Officers of the Free Trade Zone Companies.

    COLOMBO: NOMINATIONS for JAFFNA and VAVUNIYA local government elections are to be called for shortly after the gazette notification to that effect was issued, Minister for Local Government JANAKA BANDARA TENNAKOON announced at a media briefing held Monday (25) morning. Nominations for JAFFNA Municipal Council and VAVUNIYA Urban Council are to be filed between June 14-28 and Election dates are to be fixed afterwards, the Minister has further announced.

    WANNI: ARMY TROOPS, engaged in their continued search operations in VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL and ASIKULAM areas for another day during Monday (25) found four more partly decomposed dead bodies of Tiger terrorists, one pistol, one pistol magazine with three rounds, one 40 mm grenade launcher, two hundred and eleven T-56 weapons, two T-56 magazines, forty-four rounds, one suicide belt, twenty-one I-com radio sets.......

  • Sangaree Demands Resignation of TNA MPs

    TULF Leader V. Anandasangaree has demanded the resignation of all Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MPs from Parliament for having represented the now defeated LTTE, locally and internationally. "Such persons should no longer represent the Tamil community, and they should now resign and go home", he has told the media.The Tamil National Alliance is the proxy political party of the LTTE. It was formed as an amalgamation of moderate Tamil political parties as well as a number of former rebel groups.

  • LTTE MILITANTS MIGHT ENTER INDIA: Chidambaram

    THERE is a possibility of LTTE terrorists entering India through the coastline and Tamil Nadu government has been sensitised about it, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said today. "Enough precautions have been taken. The state government had been sensitised to the possible entry of militants (LTTE) through the coastline of Tamil Nadu," he told reporters here after he took over as the new Home Minister. He said: "I think the state government is fully aware of the situation.

  • Gota Orders Probe in Conduct of Three RDHSs

    DEFENSE SECRETARY Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has instructed Health Secretary Dr. Athula Kahandaliyanage to carry out a Departmental investigation into the conduct of the three Regional Directors of Health Services who spoke to the press in favour of the LTTE during the recent past. The three RDHSs, Dr. T. Sathyamoorty, Dr. Varatharajah and Dr. Shanmugarajah were arrested and held in custody when they crossed from LTTE controlled areas to government held areas along with the internally displaced people about two weeks ago.
