  • Schols & Housing Loans to Ranaviru Children & Disable War Heroes Awarded

    SIXTY-EIGHT sons and daughters of late War Heroes and disable War Heroes on Wednesday (20) received a stimulus for their studies under the fifth phase of the Ranaviru Scholarship Scheme, sponsored by Ministry of Defence (MoD) Seva Vanitha Branch, presided by Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa. The ceremony to award scholarships to those children and interest-free housing loans to the next of kin of War Heroes......

  • -œPresident Gave Correct Leadership to Humanitarian Operations- - Army Commander Tells Newly Commissioned Officers

    THE CEREMONIAL passing out parade of 229 Officer Cadets of regular intake 66 B, short commission intake 17, volunteer intake 47, volunteer lady intake 8, direct enlisted intake DE/2009 and regular intake 66 at the pioneering Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) at Diyatalawa occurred Sunday (17) attended by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya as Chief Guest. Not forgetful of their past sacrifices, the Chief Guest laid a floral tribute to the SLMA war memorial and paid his respect to their memory as the first segment on the day’s agenda.

  • Repatriates Donate 144 Wheel Chairs to Army Hospital

    SRI LANKAN community in Hong Kong got-together under four organizations, Organization of Sri Lankan Youth, Association of Sri Lankans in Hong Kong, Association of Sri Lankan Children in Hong Kong and ‘Veritas’ Listeners’ Foundation in Hong Kong, organized a donation of 144 wheel chairs to the military hospital in appreciation of the sacrifices made by the War Heroes to free the motherland from LTTE terrorism.

  • President Rajapaksa Opens New Diyagama International Stadium

    A WELL EQUIPPED international stadium built at Diyagama, Homagama to improve the sporting skills of sportsmen and women in the country which was named after the President was declared open by HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Thursday (21) morning. The first stage of this massive project was estimated to cost Rs. 390 million but the 7th Engineering Service Regiment (ESR) who is responsible for the construction completed it at a cost of only Rs. 118 million, by the Engineers of Sri Lanka Army.

    ON THE eve of the National Day and the opening of “Deyata Kirula” Mega Exhibition in Kandy, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya made an inspection tour around the 9 acre extent area allocated for Army Exhibition Stalls Wednesday (3) evening in order to receive a first hand experience.  Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, accompanied by respective Regimental Commanders and Senior Officers visited each and every stall, produced by all Regiments in the Army and saw for himself how smoothly such exhibits....

Prabhakaran, were hailed, commended and duly recognized Saturday (23) morning by none other than the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya himself who at that period of time served as their overall Commander for Wanni Security Forces. Felicitation of those VIR War Heroes who joined hands together in the battlefield to strom LTTE supremo’s hideouts in and around Nandikandal lagoon, Puthukkudiyiruppu and brought death and destruction to the LTTE till the last....

  • Army Boxers Won all Major Boxing Meets held in 2009

    SRI LANKA ARMY Boxers performed exceptionally well during the year 2009 winning all major championships conducted by the Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, namely theClifford Cup, National and the Defence Services.  Army was also awarded the Muththaiyah Zavior Shield, being awarded to the most successful Boxing Club. Army Boxers secured major honours in the Layton Cup boxing meet held on 27, 28, 29 and 30 July 2009 by winning the highest number of gold medals in the men’s category by winning five weight categories (five Gold) and four Silver medals.  Army woman boxers won three Gold Medals.

  • SLEME War Heroes' Children Show their Colours

    “Viru Daru Vivida Prasangaya”, a children’s variety show organized by Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) to display skills of their own kids was held Saturday (24) evening at the Royal College auditorium, Colombo.The Chief Guest on the occasion was Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa, the President, Seva Vanitha Branch, Ministry of Defence. She was received on her arrival by Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, the President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch.

  • Seva Vanitha Extends more Assistance to War Heroes & their Families

    THE SEVA VANITHA ARMY BRANCH (SVAB) awarded some more valuable donations to War Heroes and scholarships to their children in a simple ceremony, held this morning (24) at the indoor sports complex, Army Headquarters. Mrs. Shiranthi Rajapaksa, First Lady attended the occasion as the Chief Guest. She was received on her arrival by Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch.
