  • Unnachchiya Tank Regains its Glory

    THE UNNACHCHIYA Tank which was totally destroyed as a result of the 30 year long war was renovated by the government after humanitarian operations in the Eastern Province.  The height of the tank bund was increased  to 33 ft and its capacity was increased up to 58,000 acre feet.  The tank can feed about 13,000 acres. A project to provide drinking water to the people in Batticaloa area using water stored in the tank is also underway. An irrigation canal for about 23 kms, a requirement of the farmers in the area,.....

  • Dramatic Decrease in IDP Figures Turns New Leaf in History


    THE ACRONYM ‘IDP’ (Internally Displaced Persons) is soon going to be history in Sri Lanka as more and more war-affected civilians in the northern Wanni region are either fast returning to their new abodes or new dwelling places, perhaps sooner than they expected. In other words, thousands of poor Wanni people who fell prey to the Eelam monster within boundaries of their own areas of residence and forced to seek shelter elsewhere will no longer be labeled as IDPs.  
  • Allegations of Killings Denied

    ALL allegations being made in connection with the deaths of LTTE leaders, Nadesan, Pulidevan, Romesh and the members of their families in the last stage of the war accusing the Security Forces of killing them while they were coming forward to surrender carrying white flags are totally denied. No such killing of surrendees had taken place as alleged by certain media and by some vested interests.

  • Brief Ceremony at AHQ Marks New Year Dawn

    THE ARMY Headquarters (AHQ) had its customary New Year celebrations attended by a host of senior Army officers including Chief of Staff Major General Mendaka Samarasinghe. Hoisting of the Army flag amidst rhythms of auspicious drums (Magul Bera) inaugurated the day’s brief proceedings. National anthem and the Army song that rent the air added colour to the occasion.

    THE Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) on 30th December conducted a special coordinating conference to streamline ongoing scholarships and artificial limb donation projects sponsored by the SVAB. Members of the SVAB executive committee, headed by Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President SVAB, attended the meeting. College mates of the Army Commander Mr Nagesh Wickramasooriya who is based in Australia and is also the Secretary to the “Viru Daru Diriya Fund” an organization of Sri Lankans in Australia.....

  • 114-Special Telephone Number For Colombo Security

    THE PUBLIC are requested to use the telephone facility 114 if they need to inform the Security Forces of any suspicious items or parcels or activity that would affect peace within city limits in Colombo or in the suburbs. Such information will be treated highly confidential, the Army Headquarters announced.

  • New Year Gifts for Students at Kanagarayankulam Vidyalaya from Sirimavo Balika, Colombo
