  • 234 Brigade Hqrs Gifts Items to Children in Orphanage

    UNDER THE SPONSORSHIP of 234 Brigade, the Officer Commanding of the Town Sector II (Batticaloa), Captain R M J B Rajapaksha handed over one computer, a stock of sports items, books and dry rations and other educational equipment for the use of children in Arundappanee Children’s Home, Poonachchimunai on 6th December 2009. The items were received by Rev. Father S. Puvanendran, Administrator of the Children’s Home.  There are parentless 9 boys and 26 girls with others coming from low-income group families, residing in this Children’s Home. 

  • Troops Initiate Donation of Spectacles & School Items

    A SIMPLE CEREMONY was held in Monaratenna under 14 National Guard Battalion to donate school equipment to students in the village with the support of the Buddhist Association at People’s Bank and Ms Preethi Konarage on 05 December 2009. The Bank’s Buddhist Association President Mr S.K Mayadunna and the philanthropist Ms Preethi Konara, main sponsors of the donation attended the occasion as chief guests.    51 students from Monaratenna Kanishta (junior) Vidyalaya were the recipients of the donation.  

  • Major General Rajapakse, the New DGGS at AHQ

    MAJOR GENERAL S.M de A. Rajapakse, formerly the Commander Security Forces in the East Tuesday (8) morning assumed duties as the new Director General of General Staff (DGGS) at Army Headquarters (AHQ) after a brief religious ceremony at the DGGS office.   • New SFHQ-East Commander Assumes Office

    MAJOR GENERAL J.C. Rambukpotha took over duties as the new Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) on Monday (7) after a brief ceremony that comprised both religious and military traditions. The new Security Forces Commander, East was accorded a guard turnout plus a Guard of Honour by soldiers at SFHQ-E on his entrance to the premises. His predecessor, Major General S.M de A. Rajapaksha was to take over as the new Director General of General Staff (DGGS) at Army Headquarters.

  • US State Dept Official Expresses Satisfaction on IDP Status

    A DELEGATION, led by Robert O. Blake, Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia of the US State Department visited Wanni and met a cross-section of IDPs last weekend. Mr Blake and the delegation were received in Wanni by Commander Security Forces, Wanni Major General Kamal Gunaratne. Later the Wanni Commander briefed the delegation on the infrastructure and other facilities, being provided by the government to the Welfare villages. The delegation afterwards went to see the Manik Farm Welfare Village.

  • Commander Opens the New SFHQ Mullaittivu

    AS SERENITY is fast taking root, the law and order machinery is simultaneously shaping up in the Mullaittivu district while restoring full normalcy, freedom, democracy and more significantly, the peace and harmony among Mullaittivu people, badly battered for over three decades due to LTTE terrorism inside the so called former “heartland of LTTE’s de-facto regime”. The ceremonial opening of the newly established Security Forces Headquarters, Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) complex Tuesday (8) morning by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya further cemented the notion that security in the Mullaittivu sector would not remain an issue any longer since Police personnel in Mullaittivu are now able to well coordinate all security administrative matters with this new Headquarters.

  • Army Commander Sets the Record Straight

    ON THE eve of opening of the Victory Monument at Puthukkudiyiruppu on Wednesday (9) and official inauguration of the new Security Forces Headquarters, Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) the previous morning, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army met a cross section of the General Officers Commanding and senior representative officers at Puthukkudiyiruppu, and made a point to clarify a string of allegations that had been leveled by the retired Chief of Defence Staff, General Sarath Fonseka.

  • British & Norwegian Diplomats Tour Jaffna Peninsula

    BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER in Sri Lanka Dr Peter Hayes and Norwegian Ambassador in Sri Lanka Tore Hattrom, accompanied by Dominic Williams, Second Secretary to the British High Commission and G. Z Meenilankco, Advisor to Royal Norwegian Embassy arrived in Jaffna on a three-day fact-finding visit last Sunday (6). They met Commander Security Forces, Jaffna Major General L.B.R Mark at the Security Forces Headquarters. During this meeting, Jaffna Commander briefed them on current security developments and contribution of security forces to prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the area. 

  • Puthukkudiyiruppu Victory Monument Unveiled

    PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU, near the mangroves in Nanthikadal lagoon where heroic War Heroes annihilated world’s most ruthless cycle of terrorism and its megalomaniac monster during a dignified military ceremony this morning (9) received recognition and immortality with a “Victory Monument” before a galaxy of military chiefs, including President Mahinda Rajapaksa who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. The special “Victory Monument”, erected at Puthumattalan in memory of all those War Heroes who triumphed over evil and sacrificed their lives for the noblest of all noble causes was unveiled amidst hoisting of the National Flag and Tri-service Flags by President Rajapaksa and Tri-service Commanders respectively. The visiting President on arrival at the venue was accorded a Guard of Honour by Commando Regiment soldiers. Minutes after that the President hoisted the National flag and all Tri-Service Commanders simultaneously hoisted the flags of their respective services.
