  • Everyone's Sacrifice Brought Victory over Terrorism - Army Commander

    COMMANDER of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya flew to the Minneriya Infantry Training Centre on Tuesday (1). Lieutenant General Jayasuriya was received on arrival by Major General Srinath Rajapakse, the Commander Security Forces in the East at Hingurakgoda Air Force Base. At the entrance to the Infantry Training Centre, the Commander was welcomed by Brigadier Ashoka Amunugama, its Commandant where the Army Commander was greeted to a Guard Turn Out.

  • 6186 More IDPs Go Out

    ONE MORE total of 6186 IDPs used the opportunity today (2) to leave the IDP welfare centres and visit outside.  They were from zone zero - 1313, zone I-1391, zone II-1051, zone III - 785, zone IV-642 and 1004 IDPs from Samagipura, Weerapura and Dharmapura welfare centres. They went out from those centres by 9.00 a.m. this morning (2).

  • Chinese Envoy Calls on Army Commander

    AMBASSADOR for People's Republic of China H.E. Ms. Yang Xiuping called on Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Wednesday (2) afternoon in order to pay a courtesy call.
    The visiting ambassador congratulated the Army Commander on his new appointment as the 19th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and recalled the challenging tasks he performed as the Security Forces Commander (Wanni) when the Wanni Humanitarian Operations were at their peak.

    A GROUP of Singaporean Buddhists from Singapore, accompanied by Ven. Bellanwila Dhammarathana Thero, Advisor, Buddhist Library Singapore and chief incumbent, Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya recently distributed a large stock of essentials and household items among the needy at Mamaduwa, a remote village in Vavuniya area. About 500 villagers from Mamaduwa, received garments, mosquito nets, wheelchairs, stretches, electric appliances, ......

  • -œRanketi- Pre-School Kids Show Their Colours

    THE ANNUAL EXHIBITION of handicrafts and children’s fair, organized by Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) anaged ‘Ranketi’ pre-school at Panagoda took place recently at Panagoda pre-school premises. It was organized under the guidance of Mrs Sarojini Daulagala, a senior member of the SVAB who is also in charge of ‘Ranketi’ pre-school. Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya President SVAB attended the occasion as chief guest. A kid from the school offered her a bouquet of flowers and welcomed her on arrival at the venue.

  • Northern Naval Commander Calls on Jaffna Commander

    THE NEWLY APPOINTED COMMANDER Northern Naval Area Rear Admiral J.S.K Kolambage paid a visit to the Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) Saturday (28) morning. The visiting Northern Naval Commander was greeted to a Guard of Honour by Army troops, attached to the Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna on his arrival at the premises. He was received by the Commander SFHQ-J Major General L.B.R Mark who later conducted him to his office for mutual discussions. Discussions mainly covered security concerns in Jaffna.....

  • Army's AIPT Training Commences at Mullaittivu

    THE Army’s training sessions are in now full swing after the successful completion of Wanni humanitarian operations and the War that dragged on for more than 30 years. The newly-established Mullaittivu Security Forces Headquarters, SFHQ (MLT) has facilitated Task Force II, the Army camp at Oddusudan to begin the Advanced Infantry Platoon Training (AIPT) Course once again for all formations under SFHQ (MLT).

  • 5000 More IDPS Exit Welfare Centers

    INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS (IDP) in Vavuniya, Mannar, Welioya and other areas were given permission from Tuesday (1) onwards to move about freely outside those Welfare Centres and return after sometime. Civil authorities with the cooperation of Army and Police personnel facilitated this new procedure in accordance with security procedures. Those displaced civilians, depending on their specific requirements are permitted to either visit any places or their next of kin outside those Welfare Centres and return to their Welfare Centres.

  • Anulians Donate Limbs for the Second Time

    THE SECOND PHASE of the donation of artificial legs to disable War Heroes by Anula Vidyalaya students took place on Thursday (3) at Ragama Ranaviru Sevana. Twelve artificial limbs, worth some Rs. 300,000 plus a cash donation were presented to War Heroes during a brief ceremony. The entire project is to donate 50 artificial legs to War Heroes.    Earlier 25 artificial legs were given away by those students who have been lavishly supported by their school principal, Mrs Sandhya Neelamani Malaviarachchi, Buddhist Association, Old Girls’ Association and members of the tutorial staff.Thursday’s donation of 11 artificial legs occurred in the presence of the principal....

  • SLNG Continue Their Community Oriented Projects

    TWENTY-FOURTH and fourteenth Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops serving the 231 Brigade conducted a series of community-oriented welfare programmes in Welikanda and Polonnaruwa areas during this week. A stock of exercise books were distributed among students at Nagasthenna, Maithrigama, Mahasenpura and Kurulubedda schools in the area during brief ceremonies held by 14 SLNG troops.
