Everyone's Sacrifice Brought Victory over Terrorism - Army Commander

COMMANDER of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya flew to the Minneriya Infantry Training Centre on Tuesday (1). Lieutenant General Jayasuriya was received on arrival by Major General Srinath Rajapakse, the Commander Security Forces in the East at Hingurakgoda Air Force Base. At the entrance to the Infantry Training Centre, the Commander was welcomed by Brigadier Ashoka Amunugama, its Commandant where the Army Commander was greeted to a Guard Turn Out.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya afterwards declared open the newly constructed Buddha Shrine and unveiled its statue. He also later opened the newly constructed two-storied building where a library and a computer centre have been accommodated.

Later, addressing about 1500 officers and soldiers at the Training Centre, the Commander said that the Army’s victory over terrorism was possible due to sacrifices made by all and skilful conduct of the Humanitarian Operations by all ranks from a private to a senior Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) and all officers, from a 2/Lieutenant to a Major General Rank with the support of other services. He paid tribute to all of them. He also said that though the Army conducted operations in the past and achieved victory, it was unable to attain the final victory owing to absence of the political leadership, International support and financial help. But the special reason for achievement of the victory this time was the favourable nature of  above developments thanks to government authorities. During his address, the Army Commander also advised all Army personnel to perform their duties meeting high standards of discipline without tarnishing the image of the Army.

Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, the President Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) and a few senior officers at the Army Headquarters also participated in the tour.
