  • New IGP Calls on Army Commander

    THE NEW Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mahinda Balasuriya called on the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at Army Headquarters (AHQ) Tuesday (24) morning. Troops of the Corps of  Sri Lanka Engineers accorded a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour to the visiting IGP before the Principal Staff Officers at the AHQ were introduced to him at the entrance to the AHQ main building.

  • Solar-Powered Electric Lamps Distributed among Grade 5 Scholarship Holders

    SEVENTY FIVE solar-powered electric lamps were distributed among students at the Menik Farm relief village who scored the highest marks at the Grade 5 scholarship examination 2009 to assist those students in their studies. The donation was arranged on the instructions of Commander Security Forces Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W) Major General Kamal Gunarathne with sponsorship of Jinasena (Pvt) Limited.

  • Security Provided as Requested Retired to General Sarath Fonseka

    BRIGADIER Udaya Nanayakkara Military Spokesman denied allegations and false reports disseminated by some of  media publications on the security provided to the retired General Sarath Fonseka at a  media briefing held at MCNS today (24). He revealed that Retired Chief of Defence  Staff General Sarath Fonseka has requested 01 Commando officer, 20 Commando other rankers, 03 officers and 50 soldiers of Sinha Regiment, 10 Drivers and 05 members from Women's Corps, 01 Bullet proof car, 03 Landrover jeeps, 01 Heavy vehicle, 01 Van, one 26 seater bus.

  • Security Forces Headquarters -“ Wanni Celebrates 11th Anniversary

    A SERIES of ceremonies including multi religious observances were held to mark the 11th anniversary of the Security Forces Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W) that fell on 23rd November 2009. Ceremonies started with religious observances conducted at Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and the Mirisavetiya temple on 20th November 2009 with the participation of the Commander SFHQ-(W) Major General Kamal Gunaratne. SF (W) Commander, Officers and Other Ranks during religious observances transferred merits to fallen War Heroes and invoked blessings on injured and disabled War Heroes and also on serving soldiers.

  • Troops on Search & Clear Operations Find Improvised LTTE Bombs

    WANNI : TROOPS serving in KILLINOCHCHI, ADAMPAN, AKKARAYANKULAM, PUTUKUDIRIPPU and PULIYANKULAM areas recovered   thirty-eight 60 mm mortar bombs, sixty Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) chargers, seven RPG bombs,  seven 60 mm mortar illuminating bombs, three anti personnel mines, one hundred and sixteen Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) Ammunition, one MPMG link, seven thousand and nine T-56 ammunition, two 40 mm armour ammunition,  one hundred and twenty-five hand grenades, ninety-seven improvised LTTE bombs....

  • Govt to Sign Agreements With Indian, Chinese Companies: Northern Railway Line Reconstruction Expedited

    THE GOVERNMENT will sign agreements with an Indian and a Chinese company to reconstruct the Northern railway line from Omanthai to Kankesanthurai next week.The Indian company IRCON will construct the railway line from Omanthai to Pallai while China Railway Number Five Group will undertake the construction of the railway line from Pallai Kankensanthurai, Sri Lanka Railway’s General Manager P.P. Wijesekara told the Daily News. 

  • New House for the Disable War Hero Gifted

    A NEW house was donated to a disabled War Hero of the 2nd battalion of Special Forces with the financial support of Sri lankans living in Canada. Lance Corporal B Richard Kumar was injured during Eastern operations on 28th August 2006 in Sampoor and turned totally disabled due to those injuries. Patriotic Sri lankans living in Canada headed by Mr. Nandana Thennakoon and Mr. Kumara Rathnayake came forward to sponsor the construct of this new house for the War Hero.

  • Commander Hails Role of Officers & Other Ranks in Wanni Battles

    LIEUTENANT GENERAL Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army made the time Thursday (26) morning to meet a cross-section of the soldiers serving Kilinochchi and brief them on current developments taking place in relation to the Army and the country at large. Lieutenant General Jayasuriya was received on arrival at Kilinochchi Security Forces Headquarters (SFHQ) by Brigadier B.A Perera, 58 Division Commander. A guard turnout greeted the visiting Army Chief. Officers from Mullaittivu and Wanni SFHQs were also at Kilinochchi to listen to their Commander. 

  • Change of Command at Logistics Headquarters

    BRIGADIER R.M.J Rathnayake took over duties as Commander, Logistic Command Headquarters from the outgoing Commander Major General L.B Aluvihare on 20 November 2009 during a brief ceremony.

  • Troops Continue to Find more LTTE Warlike Items

    NORTH: TROOPS during their search and clear operations in the general areas of THARAKANKUDI, MADHU, MULLAITTIVU, THANNIMURIPPUKULAM, VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL and THONIVELI recovered fifteen claymore mines, twelve  hand grenades,  one booby trap made from 81 mm mortar bomb, one Bangalore torpedo,   nine hundred and seventy-three rounds of T-56 ammunition, seven anti personnel mines, five 60 mm mortar bombs, two trip flares, two 40 mm mortar bombs, six Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), twenty Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) links, .....
