  • SVAB Gives Away ESR Donated Medical Bed to Military Hospital


    Mrs. Damayanthi Ratnayake, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) on Monday (30) gave away a medical bed for the use of patients at Military Hospital with sponsorship, provided by the Engineer Service Regiment (ESR) Seva Vanitha Unit. During the SVAB’s recent visit to the ‘Rana Viru Sevana’ at Ragama, this bed was donated to the SVAB.....

    Troops of 5 Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) Regiment  as one more segment of their ongoing community service projects, entertained about 55 kids of low-income groups learning at two pre-schools, Weeramanagar Pre-School in Patalipuram and Thangapuram Sri Ganesha Pre-  school  in Pallikudiruppu during two days (Sept 26 & 27).

    Colourfully-dressed Army cultural troupe’s rhythmic beats of traditional and auspicious beats of Hevisi and Magul Bera reverberated around the most sacred Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi precincts Tuesday (1) morning as hundreds of soldiers-turned flag-bearers of the Sri Lanka Army lined up, holding all Army Flags to be taken for symbolic invocation of blessings to coincide with the forthcoming Army Day (Oct 10) and 64th Army Anniversary.

    Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, minutes after religious observances at Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya to coincide with the forthcoming 64th Army Anniversary and Army Day (Oct 10), paid a visit to the ‘Abimansala - I’ (wellness resort) to inquire into the well-being of dependent War Heroes, residing there for the rest of their lives.

  • Army Kabbadi Player Adjudged the Best


    Players of Sri Lanka Army Kabbadi team and Sri Lanka Air Force Kabbadi team were declared co-winners in the recent P. Jayaweera Memorial National Kabbadi Tournament, played at Matara German Friendship Football ground during Sept 28-29. 15 male teams and 10 female teams of both services and private clubs took part in the tournament under the coordination of the Sri Lanka Amateur Kabbadi Association and Matara District Kabbadi Association. Sri Lanka Navy team got the third place in the men’s section.
  • Religious Ceremonies Bless 56 Division Anniversary


    Religious ceremonies of all denominations blessed the 16th Anniversary of the 56 Division Headquarters at Vavuniya on Sunday (29). The same ceremony, consisted of a special Bodhi Pooja, prayer sessions and a Pooja at the Hindu Kovil in Vavuniya, attended by senior officers. Transfer of merits on fallen War Heroes and invocation of blessings on the disable and those serving culminated the day’s programme.
  • Commander Congratulates Grade 5 Achiever of Army Parents


    Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, on learning that the student, Kavindya Gimhani, the daughter of Army Warrant Officer-I, Nilmini  Priyangika Kumari  of 3 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and  the Warrant Officer-II, M. M. Mahinda of 4 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps, has scored the highest marks for the second place at the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination - 2013, gifted her with a cash cheque of Rs 50,000/= as an incentive to her higher studies during a meeting at the Commander’s Office Wednesday (2) morning.
