Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, on learning that the student, Kavindya Gimhani, the daughter of Army Warrant Officer-I, Nilmini Priyangika Kumari of 3 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps and the Warrant Officer-II, M. M. Mahinda of 4 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps, has scored the highest marks for the second place at the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination - 2013, gifted her with a cash cheque of Rs 50,000/= as an incentive to her higher studies during a meeting at the Commander’s Office Wednesday (2) morning.
The student, Kavindya Gimhani of Subharathi Mahamathya Vidyalaya, Godagama, Homagama was one among three island-wide students who had scored identical 196 marks for the second place in the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination - 2013.
At provincial level, Kavindya is the first with the highest marks from Colombo District beating 329,725 students who sat the Examination in August through 2836 centres country-wide.
Lieutenant General Ratnayake after a brief exchange of views with the achiever and her parents of the Army, wished her good luck in her future studies after presenting her with Rs 50,000/= as an appreciative gift.
Parents expressed their gratitude to the Commander for his gesture of encouragement and thoughtfulness.
Brigadier K.P Sumanapala, Director Medical Services, Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera, Director Media and Military Assistant were present during the meet.
