  • Unidentified Ammunition among Monday's Recoveries

    NORTH: TROOPS operating in the general areas of IRANAMADU, VISUAMADU, PUTHUKUDDIYIRUPPU and  UDAYARKATTUKULAM conducted search and clear operations in those areas on Monday (7) and recovered three diesel barrels, thirteen hand grenades, twenty-four 60 mm mortar bombs, thirty-three mortar fuses, parts of a T-56 weapon, one claymore mine, one hundred and twenty anti personnel mines, eleven rounds of Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG), two ammunition used in recoilless (RCL) weapons,  one hundred and thirty-four rounds of .22 ammunition, forty-seven rounds of unidentified ammunition, four National Identity cards, two driving licenses, four hundred bottles containing various chemicals and two Arul bombs.

  • Government Tells Channel 4: Scientific Evidence Proves it was a Fake

    HUMAN Rights and Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe yesterday said that the Government is going to ask the retraction of the controversial execution video from Channel 4, as comprehensive investigations and analysis conducted by four experts on the video have provided scientific evidence to prove that it was a fake and a heavily tampered video. Addressing the media at the Media Centre for National Security along with Defence Affairs Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and three other experts to discuss the authenticity of the controversial video.....

  • Honorary Degrees Conferred on President and Defence Secretary

    THE University of Colombo conferred a honorary degree of Doctor of Laws on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at its Postgraduate Convocation held at the BMICH yesterday. The Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa too was conferred with a honorary degree of Doctor of Letters, at the same event. The University of Colombo conferred the titles on the two leaders in recognition of their services to the country in safeguarding its territorial integrity, sovereignty by defeating the LTTE and restoring peace and harmony among all Sri Lankan communities and uplifting the image of Sri Lanka.......

  • Api Wenuwen Api Fund: Highest Ever Donation from AASL

    AIRPORT and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited (AASL) has donated the highest ever sigle donation - Rs. 14 million - to the fund in aid of the war heroes who sacrificed their lives and fought the three decade old terrorist war to an end. This large sum of money collected under the guidance of Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Chamal Rajapaksa was presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa by Chairman of Airport and Civil Aviation Company Prasnna Wickremasuriya.

  • LTTE Financial Apparatus, Propaganda Network Being Dismantled- Prof Peiris Tells Queen's Counsel In London

    EVEN after the military defeat of the LTTE in Sri Lanka and the destruction of its leadership, the global network of the terrorist organization continued to be used vigorously against Sri Lanka, and this was especially evident in the intensity of the propaganda campaign that was waged against the country, Export Development and International Trade Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris said in London last week. He was addressing a group of eminent British lawyers, including Queen’s Counsel, in London. The situation has changed dramatically with the arrest of senior LTTE personalities outside Sri Lanka, and the remaining activities of the terrorist organization can be expected to wind down as a result of these developments, he said.

  • Lankans in UK Demonstrate Over Channel 4 Footage

    NEARLY 150 UK residents of Sri Lankan origin demonstrated opposite London's Channel 4 television broadcasting station calling it a bogus news service. They had placards which said "Channel 4 now say Sorry", "Miller means twisted stories", "Channel four broadcasts shameful lies", "How could we believe Channel 4 anymore?", "Channel 4 scoops are fantasy dramas" and "Channel 4, hands off Sri Lanka."

  • 199 Colombo Maps Among LTTE Recoveries

    SUNDAY’S (6) detection of 417 ground maps by Task Force-8 troops from Kappokulam, Puthukuddiyiruppu, Mullaittivu affirmed further that Tiger terrorists had been orchestrating bloodbaths in Colombo, Negombo, Puttalam, Hambantota, Kurunegala, Kalutara and elsewhere in the East after giving rapt attention to the minute details of sensitive installations. 

  • Dubai Based Sri Lankans Offer Equipment to Military Hospital

    A COLLECTIVE effort made by a group of Sri Lankans living in Dubai donated a stock of medical equipment and sanitary facilities to Colombo Military hospital for the use of Army personnel became disable and still receiving treatment. Using funds collected by Mr. A.L. Christofelz with assistance of his Sri Lankan friends in Dubai, Lions’ Club in Polgasowita took the initiative to purchase and donate twenty bed-side saline stands.....

  • Troops Conduct More Humanitarian Services

    ONE more round of humanitarian assistance of the Sri Lanka Army for Jaffna civilians got underway recently with the help of troops in the 521 Brigade in Chavakachcheri area. To encourage and assist the O/L and A/L students in Ampan, Kudattane and Kadakudattane areas who sat their examination this year, 10th (Volunteer) Gemunu Watch (10 [V] GW) troops arranged a lecture for Catholic students on positive attitudes in life. The lecture was conducted recently by Captain R.M.P. Baduge at the American Mission (Neth India Thirusabai) Church. 

  • Army Renovates Historic Jaffna Fort

    THE historic Jaffna Fort built by the Portuguese and later on further improved by the Dutch was later badly damaged and partly destroyed as a result of LTTE terrorist activities.  The deplorable state of the Fort attracted the attention of the Sri Lanka Army. The historic importance of this archeological monument was to be renovated and brought back to its original position shortly under the guidance of Jaffna Commander and under the supervision of 51 Divisional Commander with the assistance of the Northern Province Governor’s office.
