  • Rohingyas Arrested Over Tiger Links

    THREE Rohingya men in Thailand have been arrested and found to have been involved in arms trade with the Tamil Eelam rebels in Sri Lanka and the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States. The three are identified as Mohammad Ali Hussien, Babuji or Mohammad Madbahem, and Chubri Awae. They were arrested in a coordinated operation of the Armed Forces Security Centre, National Intelligence Agency, Royal Thai Police, and Department of Special Investigation.

    THE Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) arrested a director of a leading pharmaceutical company in Wellawatte for having connections with the LTTE and seized a stock of medical items valued at around Rs.2.5 million which were prepared to be sent to the LTTE. Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said the stock of drugs and medical items meant for the LTTE were recovered by the TID hidden inside a house in Perera Avenue, Wellawatte on Monday night. “The TID also nabbed a suspect along with the medical items,” SSP Gunasekera added.

  • Defence Secretary Interacts With War Hero Families in Gampaha

    SECRETARY Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, taking a brief respite from his day’s busy office schedule on Tuesday (16) spent more than six hours with six hundred next of kin of fallen War Heroes of the Tri-services and the Police with a view to learning of their grievances and problems, if any during the 18th Ranaviru welfare workshop, held at Commando Regimental Headquarters in Ganemulla. This 18th round of the Ranaviru welfare programme, founded on a concept mooted by Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa is actively spearheaded by Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA) under the chairmanship of Major General (Retd) Palitha Fernando. On arrival at the Ganemulla Commando Regimental Center, Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa, President, Defence Ministry Seva Vanitha Unit, were received by Major General (Retd) Palitha Fernando and Colonel of the Commando Regiment Major General Srinath Rajapakse. 

  • Thirty-Five Private Lorries Enter Jaffna Along A-9

    NORTH: HERALDING a new era of North-South relations and a blueprint for the future of civil transport sector, twenty-five private lorries with consumer commodities, bound for JAFFNA crossed OMANTHAI Wednesday (17) afternoon along the KANDY-JAFFNA (A-9) Highway. The Army provided security to the convoy. In addition, ten more lorries, acquired under the government’s ongoing “Uthuru Wasanthaya” project by the Army also joined the convoy at OMANTHAI this morning (17) to proceed to JAFFNA. 

  • Army Gets Down Coaches for Vakare Students

    SRI LANKA Army troops serving the east, as part of their civil coordination work took an initiative to get down volleyball coaches from Colombo to train students at Vakare Vidyalaya, Valachchena and youngsters in the area. The coaching camp for students as well as for youths in the area took place during the weekend (June 13-14) . Several Sri Lanka Volleyball Association coaches actively helped Vakare Vidyalaya students during both days while Army coaches in cooperation with visiting coaches trained youngsters from different sports organizations in the area.

  • CID Allowed to Detain TRO Head

    THE Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday granted the CID permission to detain the Chairman of LTTE front organisation known as Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) Velupillai Sivanadgar and another person identified as Eliyathamby Threshakumaran.CID said the suspect would be indicted in Court on the counts of providing funds for terrorist activities and aiding and abetting terrorism.The Magistrate also ordered the issue of notice to seven other suspects to appear in Court on July 28.

  • UNICEF Offers Their Rehabilitation Support for LTTE Child Soldiers

    UNITED Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF) has extended its support for government’s rehabilitation programme for teenage Tiger cadres who entered then government- controlled areas during the recently-concluded LTTE war for separation.   • Army Denies Having Found Prabhakaran's Diary

    CONTRARY to media reports that a diary belonging to V. Prabhakaran has been found by the Police from the handbag of a soldier, the Army Headquarters categorically denies having found such a diary from a soldier’s bag as stated in those reports. What the Police have found from the bag was just a diary, believed to be belonging to the LTTE organization and not any of Prabakaran’s diaries.

  • University Students Commemorate Death Anniversary of Professor Samaranayake by Donating Medical Equipments to Military Hospital

    STUDENTS' Union members of University of Colombo School of Computing donated one Ultra Sound Therapy equipment and thirty crutches for the use of War Heroes who sustained injuries during the recently concluded humanitarian operations against LTTE terrorists. This donation was made to coincide with the second death anniversary of late Professor V.K.
