  • Prosecution Closes Its Case

    The Court Martial-1 probing charges against General Sarath Fonseka’s alleged participation in political work resumed its sittings on 12th August 2010 at 9.30 a.m. as scheduled. During sittings, prosecution concluded the examination in chief on the 4th witness and also closed the case. The accused was however not represented by his Defence Counsel on Thursday (12). The Court Martial-1 resumes its sittings on Friday (13) at 9.30 a.m.

  • IC Should Scrutinize LTTE Use of Human Shield

    Former Human Rights Commission Chairman and human rights activist Godfrey Gunathilake yesterday said the LTTE's use of human shield which was the primary cause of civilian suffering and loss of their lives received less attention from the international community. Gunathilake was of the opinion that the issues regarding the LTTE's use of the human shield and the suicide bomber require the closest scrutiny by any institution or a person assessing the conduct of the last phases of the war.

    The Court Martial - 1, probing charges against General Sarath Fonseka’s participation in political work while in active service convicted him of all three charges during its sittings on Friday (13). The Court is to decide on the sentence and convey it to the convening authority, HE the President who is the confirming officer as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

  • Army & Navy Troops Renovate Tamil School with US Funds

    Army and Naval troops jointly renovated the east based Thiriyaya Government Tamil School and handed it over to the Education Department authorities Thursday (12) morning during a simple ceremony. The entire cost of the repairs was provided by the civil affairs section in the Colombo based US Embassy. In addition, troops also put up a new activity room for the school for the first time in its history.

  • Anandasangaree praises Forces

    TULF Leader V Anandasangaree yesterday said that Sri Lankan military forces are excellent in terms of humanitarian assistance. He said they are the best humanitarianwise and the civilians displaced by terrorist atrocities in the North are well looked after by them. He stressed the need of setting up civil administration in the areas affected by the conflict. He was of the view that the assistance of Government servants who know the area well should be sought by the Government.
