Army and Naval troops jointly renovated the east based Thiriyaya Government Tamil School and handed it over to the Education Department authorities Thursday (12) morning during a simple ceremony.
The entire cost of the repairs was provided by the civil affairs section in the Colombo based US Embassy. In addition, troops also put up a new activity room for the school for the first time in its history.
The project has cost Rs. 400,000/- for the US embassy and both renovation and construction of the new ‘activity’ building was completed within a period of 3 months.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mr Chad Thibodean, US Embassy Civil-Military Support official, Mrs Ananda Raja, Zonal Education Director for Thiriyaya area, Senior Army and Navy officers, Education Department officials, teachers, students and a large gathering of people in the area attended the occasion.
