    Scores of Mannar-based Army troops had to rush in and help wildlife officials who came to take away a roaming wild pachyderm, as it was causing immense destruction and damage to crops and civilian properties.   • Government Confiscating LTTE Assets

    Prime Minister DM Jayaratne yesterday stated that the Government is in the process to confiscating the assets including houses, plots of land and business establishments that were run by the LTTE in Colombo and the suburbs. The Prime Minister moving the Motion to extend the Emergency Regulations by another one month, in Parliament further stated that information about the assets of the LTTE in Colombo and the suburbs are being divulged by LTTE cadres who have been arrested.

  • LTTE Attempting to Play Transnational Terrorist Game - Ex US Assistant Secretary

    The boat carrying around 200 asylum seekers from Sri Lanka heading towards North America was part of an attempt by the Tigers to “create a network again and play the transnational terrorist game,” the Washington Post quoting former US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for South and Southeast Asia James Clad, reported yesterday. “I’m not an advocate for sending people back to their deaths, but that is just not happening in Sri Lanka,” he said.

    Renowned business establishment, David Pieris Motors Company Ltd was the latest donor who came forward to put up two villas at ongoing ‘Abimansala’, wellness resort at Anuradhapura under the ‘Brave Hearts’ project at a cost of Rs. 10 million. The construction project, meant for War Heroes who became permanently disable after injuries in the fight against terrorists is to be a reality soon, following an initiative taken by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.
