  • Sri Lanka Army Brings North & East Soccer Teams to Colombo

    SRI LANKA ARMY has coordinated the transport of soccer teams of North and East schools to visit Colombo to participate in the Inter School Seven a Side Soccer tournament, held at Race-Course grounds Colombo during the weekend June 26 - 27. Participation of teams from North and East in this tournament was made possible only after the Security Forces crushed the ruthless LTTE terrorists in May 2009.

  • Mannar Farmers Donate Rice & Food Items for Poson Eating Houses

    RICE, dried fish and food items to the value of Rs 2 lakhs were donated by farmers and irrigation officers in Manthai, Mannar for the use of Anuradhapura ‘Poson’ Dansala (free meal distribution) after absence of nearly 30 years. The goodwill gesture for promotion of reconciliation among ethnic communities has been organized by 215 Brigade in Mannar following an initiative taken by those farmers and irrigation officers.

  • 'Abimansala' Work in Full Swing

    THE foundation erecting one of the ‘Abimansala’ (Wellness Resort) buildings at Anuradhapura is fast nearing completion as work is now in full swing. Soldiers attached to Corps of Engineer Services have already undertaken ground preparations and foundation-laying work at ‘Abimansala’ at Anuradhapura after the foundation-laying stone was laid by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya as recent as 15th  May 2010.

  • Indian Navy Chief on Goodwill Visit Meets Army Commander

    INDIAN Navy Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nirmal Verma, now in Sri Lanka on a five-day long official visit, called on Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Monday (28) afternoon at Army Headquarters. His visit, a gesture of goodwill, meant to promote existing bilateral relations further, was accorded a Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour at the Commander’s secretariat premises. On arrival at the premises, he was received by Lieutenant Colonel Sunil Ariyaratne, Commanding Officer, Army Headquarters Battalion. The visiting Navy Chief was later introduced to Senior Army Officers by Commander of the Army at the entrance to the main building. The delegation included several more India’s senior Naval officers.

  • Prosecution & Defence in 2nd CM Complete Cross-Examining & Lead of Evidence

    Both first and second Courts Martial hearing charges against General Sarath Fonseka resumed sittings on Monday (28) respectively at 2.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m., as scheduled. Prosecution in the first Court Martial moved to call up the first witness on 12th July 2010 at 2.00 p.m. for the next round of hearing.The second Court Martial after resuming its sittings at 4.00 p.m. on Monday (28) adjourned.....
