Mannar Farmers Donate Rice &;amp; Food Items for Poson Eating Houses

RICE, dried fish and food items to the value of Rs 2 lakhs were donated by farmers and irrigation officers in Manthai, Mannar for the use of Anuradhapura ‘Poson’ Dansala (free meal distribution) after absence of nearly 30 years.

The goodwill gesture for promotion of reconciliation among ethnic communities has been organized by 215 Brigade in Mannar following an initiative taken by those farmers and irrigation officers. A brief ceremony to hand over these items took place at Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi upper layer (Udamaluwa) with the participation of those Mannar farmers, 215 Brigade Commander, Director General Irrigation, Director Irrigation (Vavuniya) and several others senior officers.

Those Mannar farmers, for the first time in the their lives, had the rare chance of interacting with a group of Anuradhapura, Nachchiyaduwa peasants. During their meet, those farmers exchanged views on new techniques of farming and methods of increasing harvests.                

 Meanwhile, Army troops in Mannar organized two Poson Dansal in Mannar town and Andankulam areas that come under 215 Brigade on 25th June, (Poson full moon day). 


Those Dansal provided free meals to the people in the area. Maha Karuna Buddhist Association in Singapore and Nawaloka Construction Company sponsored the conduct of those Dansal. Colonel M.L.V.M Liyanage, 215 Brigade Commander and senior officers from the Army in the area, Divisional Secretary Mannar Mr De Mel, Chief Inspector of Mannar Police Daluwatta and Mr Sisira Senaratne from Nawaloka Construction Company were present at the inauguration of those two Dansal.
