  • Commercial Bank to Build One Cottage at -œAbimansala- Wellness Resort

    One of the leading private sector banks in the country the Commercial Bank of Sri Lanka has come forward to build one “Cottage” in the ongoing “Abimansala” (Wellness Resort) under Brave Heart project launched by Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB).This was revealed during a meeting the SVAB has had Tuesday (22) afternoon. Commercial Bank has decided to build this cottage with all the facilities at a cost of Rs. 3.5 million for the benefit of Disabled War Heroes who are dependents for the rest of their lives.

  • Kilinochchi Receives Number of VVIP Visitors

    A MINISTERIAL delegation led by Mr. Namal Rajapaksa MP visited Kilinochchi to attend the opening of a series of development projects in Kilinochchi on 17th June. They included, releasing of 200,000 Herring to Akkarayankulam tank, opening of the Electricity Board consumer service station, the District Vocational Training Centre, Handing over of 3 SLTB buses to Kilinochchi Depot, opening of a SATHOSA outlet and the opening of a newly built NAITA Centre in Kilinochchi.

    MAJOR GENERAL L.W.C.B.B. Rajaguru who was promoted recently to the rank of Major General was the latest senior officer to be promoted to this rank from the Sinha Regiment.   • Kilinochchi Gets Four New Bank Branches

    THE GOVERNOR of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Mr. Ajith Nivard Cabral visited Kilinochchi recenly in order to open four new bank branches in the area. They were the Paranthan & Kilinochchi Branches of Peoples Bank, Commercial Bank and Seylan Bank Branches in Kilinochchi. These Bank branches would be a great benefit for the newly resettled people in the area to obtain loan facilities for livel-hood development and to receive remittances from their loved ones living abroad that would bring further relief to the lives of the people.

    THE CEREMONIAL passing out parade of 100 Officer Cadets at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) at Diyatalawa occurred Friday (24) attended by Prime Minister D. M. Jayarathne as Chief Guest. These newly commissioned officers, including five trained in India is Military Academy, are from the Regular Officer Cadet Intake 67, Intake 69 and Short Commission Intake 17A. Officer Cadets of Intake 67 read for a Bachelors Degree in Defence Studies awarded by the University of Sabaragamuwa.

    INTERPOL Headquarters in France has issued a Red Notice for the arrest of Chandima Anil Withanaarachchi, operator of Lankanewsweb.com, for ‘counterfeiting/forgery’. According to investigations carried out by the CID, Withanaarachchi, a lawyer has fled the country with his wife after several of his fraudulent activities had come to light.

  • Another Contingent of Sri Lanka Army Leaves for UN Peace Keeping Mission in Haiti

    THE 12th Sri Lanka Army contingent on UN Peace Keeping Mission in Haiti left  the island on 27th June for a period of six months. This 749 strong contingent from Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) is to be commanded by Colonel A.M.R Darmasiri with Lieutenant Colonel Kithsiri Liyanage as his Second-in-Command. Lieutenant Colonel C.U Marasinghe is to join them as the logistic officer. Today’s contingent comprised 375 soldiers and 37 officers.
