    THE housing project launched by the Army under the guidance of Jaffna Commander Major General M Hathurusinghe to provide alternative homes or renovated houses for displaced persons is in progress. General Officer Commanding 52 Division, Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers that come under the Command of 52 Division made an observation tour to the housing project a few days ago.

  • Army Helps School to Hold Sports Meet

    STUDENTS and teachers at Eluthumadduval PTMS Vidyalaya conducted their annual sports meet recently with the assistance given by the officers and other ranks of 522 Brigade under the supervision of its Brigade Commander on the directions of Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander Security Forces, Jaffna. The Chief Guest for the final day of the sports meet was Colonel D.M.M.S Bandara, the Brigade Commander of 522 Brigade.

  • Detainees' Relatives Taken on Picnic to South

    SECURITY FORCES HEADQUARTERS, Jaffna with the noble intention of promoting reconciliation, goodwill and friendship facilitated 23 relatives of former LTTE cadres, now under rehabilitation at Welikanda, Senapura, Ratmalana and Boossa to visit them and interact with them. 52 Division in Jaffna on the instructions of Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces, Jaffna picked up those relatives from Kodikamam and  Ramavil Welfare Centers.

  • Second AIPT Batch Passes Out

    THE 2nd batch that fallowed the Advance Infantry Platoon Training (AIPT) Course in the 57 Division Headquarters Training School recently passed out after one and a half month of training. The 350 trainees consisted of 10 officers and 340 soldiers from battalions stationed in the area under command to Security Forces Headquarters, Kilinochchi (SFHQ-K). One officer and thirty-four soldiers from each battalion were selected to follow the course.

    THE MEGA PROJECT for construction of 680 new houses for poverty-ridden families who have arrived in the Jaffna peninsula for resettlement is fast nearing completion, as each Jaffna-based Army battalion has undertaken the responsibility for erection of 15 houses when the project was launched on 1st March 2010.   • Commander Extols Army Gains in Cycling and Volleyball

    COMMANDER of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya was full of praise for Army cyclists and sports men for their achievements in Air Force organized, “Guwan Savariya” and Munchee sponsored All Island Volleyball competition when all of them met the Commander at the Army Headquarters gymnasium this morning (26).   The victorious cycling team showed the Commander the trophies they had won during the Air Force “Guwan Savariya” which covered more than 400 km. The Army team showed colours and collected the Championship in the Cycling event, held in connection with Air Force Anniversary.
