  • De-mining Goes on Smoothly

    MILITARY SPOKESMAN Major General Prasad Samarasinghe said the Army is now engaged in mine clearing operations along the A-9 Road from Paranthan to Elephant Pass and to Muhamalai. They also cover certain other areas in the North-Thunukkai, Manthivu, Oddusudan and Kokkavil. “Around 1,000 troops engaged in the de-mining operation have cleared approximately 200sq km in the Jaffna, Killinochchi, Mullaitivu and Mannar districts using 29 de-mining machines.

  • Fonseka Arrested For Breach of Discipline - Defence Secretary

    THE GOVERNMENT decided to arrest and institute action against General Sarath Fonseka as he had used his official position as the Army Commander and Chief of Defence Staff to establish connections with political parties with a view to enter politics, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said yesterday. Taking part in an interview over the ITN TV channel yesterday Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said the Sri Lanka Army and the Indian Army had held a high record of discipline in Asia as responsible forces that did not intervene or take part in politics.

Pallewela offered her patronage for house construction, selected Private K. Thushara (25), now under special education at Ragama Ranaviru Sevana who had by then chosen his new fiancée for marriage. Private Thushara was donated the plot of land by a foster mother since he had been brought up without his both parents.

  • More LTTE Arms & Ammunition Uncovered

    NORTH: TROOPS during their search and clear operations in the general areas of VISHUAMADU and  KARIYALAMODDEI on Sunday (28) recovered one 150 m detonator code, 2 electric detonators, ten claymore mines, fifteen anti personnel mines, three 40 mm grenades, twenty various type of bombs and ammunition, forty-nine Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPG) and  six 60 mm mortar bombs.

  • China Donates more De-mining Equipment to Army Engineers

    ARMY ENGINEERS, prime movers engaged in the arduous task of removing LTTE laid minefields since beginning of De-mining projects received further teeth when China during a brief ceremony Monday (1) morning donated a stock of 50 De-mining Detectors and 50 De-mining Protective Equipment for the use of Army De-miners, now conducting humanitarian de-mining operations in the North.

  • Viru Kekulu Pre-School Kids Show Talents

    THE ANNUAL SPORTS MEET at Diyathalawa Viru Kekulu Pre-school, run by Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) was held at Diyathalawa Polo ground on 27th February 2010. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, President SVAB. This was organized to improve the sports skills of the pre-school students. Tricycle races, obstacle crossing, fancy dress parades, team events and PT display, etc were among prominent and interesting features in the event.
