  • 38 Anti Personnel Mines & Improvised Explosive Device Unearthed

    NORTH: TROOPS conducting their search and clear operations in the general areas of VISUAMADU, MANKULAM, PUTHUKKUDIYIRUPPU, MARADAMADU and VELLAMULLIVAIKKAL on Tuesday (16) recovered one 81 mm mortar bomb, two Rocket Propeller Grenades (RPGs), one RPG charger, twenty LTTE hand grenades, six M-97 weapons, four M-97 magazines, one 85 silencer weapon, two 85 weapon magazines, one I-com set, sixteen anti personnel mines, one Arul bomb and one hand set.

  • Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, New SLAMC Colonel Commandant

    MAJOR GENERAL PRASAD SAMARASINGHE, in addition to his present appointments as Chief Signal Officer and Military Spokesman cum Director Media, AHQ took office this morning (17) as Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC). Major General Samarasinghe inspected the guard turnout accorded in his honour on arrival at the Regimental Headquarters premises at Panagoda and entered his office afterwards.

    THE SUBJECT OF PATRIOTISM has many facets, more popularly, they emerge in gallantry, warfare against foes, victory, etc but true tenets of patriotism are overwhelmingly glorious as Adlai Stevenson once wrote, “Men who have offered their lives for their country know that patriotism is not the fear of something, it is the love of something”.   • More Passengers Benefit from A-9 Bus Service

    NEARLY 600 passengers commute daily via the newly introduced bus service on the Jaffna-Colombo A-9 road. SLTB and private buses ply on this route.   • NO FORMER COMMANDERS APPOINTED FOR SUMMARY OF EVIDENCE

    SRI LANKA ARMY denies having appointed former Commanders of the Army General Rohan De S. Daluwatta RWP RSP VSV USP and General Shantha Kottegoda WWV, RWP, RSP, USP, ndc in connection with the ongoing  summary of evidence against General Sarath Fonseka as some speculative media reports stated today (18). No such appointments as published in some media have been made by the Army with regard to the above trial.
