More Passengers Benefit from A-9 Bus Service

NEARLY 600 passengers commute daily via the newly introduced bus service on the Jaffna-Colombo A-9 road. SLTB and private buses ply on this route.

A Transport Ministry spokesman said the Colombo-Jaffna bus service, supervised by the Transport Ministry, is successfully operated with security forces assistance.

SLTB operates 10 buses from Jaffna to Colombo, four buses from Jaffna to Kandy, two buses from Jaffna to Trincomalee and two buses from Jaffna to Batticaloa. Plans are afoot to commence public transport services on the A-34 and A-35 routes similar to the bus service operated on the A-9 road, the spokesman said. Following a special request by civilians and security personnel living along the A-34 route, the SLTB will start a new bus service from Vavuniya to Oddusudan via Mankulam. Two bus services will be launched by the Vavuniya depot on this route from February 19.

Meanwhile, a bus service will also commence from the Killinochchi bus depot to Oddusudan via Mankulam.
