  • Army Headquarters Marks Sinhala-Hindu New Year With a Fun-making Traditional New Year Festival

     
    Festival atmosphere in the country on account of the Sinhala-Hindu New Year prevailed in the Moors grounds throughout Tuesday (19) morning when officers and soldiers serving at Army Headquarters got together to mark the occasion by holding a fun-making New Year festival. Commander of the Army Lieutinant General Jagath Jayasuriya took time off to attend the festival as the Chief Guest.   • Kokeliya & Kelebogaswewa Civilians Receive New Year Bonanza

    Resetteled civilians in Kelebogaswewa and Kokeliya received the bonanza of New Year festival when a group of Singaporean philanthropists visited them on the eve of the Sinhala- Hindu New Year. 260 gift parcels with essential food items and a stock of school accessories were recently distributed among those civilians and children in both villages, thanks to the generosity shown by members of the Singapore-based Maha Karuna Buddhist Association, chaired by Ven. K.Gunerathana Thero.

  • Island-wide Army Formations Celebrate National New Year


    Various Army formations around the country celebrated the Sinhala and Hindu New Year organizing traditional New Year festivals and many other auspicious events. Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J) organized a grand musical entertainment at Hartley College grounds at Point Pedro soon after the New Year rituals were over. The arrangement organized by the SFHQ-J in coordination with the ITN TV channel drew a huge crowd and the musical event was coloured by a pantheon of both local and Indian artistes and singers.

  • SLA Salutes its Fallen War Heroes During Anniversary Commemoration


    Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment (SLA), during its 123rd anniversary commemoration ceremony on Wednesday (20) at the Regimental Headquarters, Panagoda recalled the vivid memories of their fallen War Heroes with dignity and honour. The day’s agenda got to a start soon after the arrival of the chief guest, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army for the ceremony.
