  • Troops Support Tsunami Mock Evacuation Rehearsal


    Security Force Headquarters-West (SFHQ-WEST) supported Disaster Management Centre authorities conducting a Tsunami mock Evacuation Rehearsal exercise in the general area of Dehiwala west on Wednesday (7). Troops serving the SFHQ-WEST together with members of the public took part in the exercise which lasted about two hours.

    The annual Inter Regiment Practical Shooting Tournament, organized by the Army Small Arms Association got underway at Diyatalawa firing range during August 5 - 11.     Troops serving 23 Gemunu Watch (GW) Battalion under 552 Brigade of 55 Division in Vettalaikerny, Jaffna pocketed out their own money to help an Alippalei-based young lady who has been selected to pursue higher studies at Polgolla Faculty of Studies but does not have enough means to commence higher studies.......

    Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake Friday (16) morning made a surprise visit to the Narahenpita Military Hospital complex where the country’s second largest hospital complex with 1043 beds, is fast nearing completion. Lieutenant General Ratnayake, accompanied by several senior officers, visited the upcoming new 10-storied hospital complex site and received a comprehensive account of its construction work before touring the area.

  • 25 More Army Personnel Undergo 'Search & Rescue' Training Programmes


    A group of 25 Army personnel from all island-wide Security Force Headquarters, Division Headquarters and Brigade Headquarters underwent a two-week long course on ‘Search and Rescue Operations’ at Balapitiya, initiated by the Army Directorate of Operations with the cooperation of Department of Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Sri Lanka Navy.

    Sri Lanka Army Warrant Officer I Nadeeka Lakmalee made history on Friday (16) when she qualified to enter the finals in women Javelin throw, event in the ongoing International Association of Athletic Federation (IAAF) World Athletic Championships in Moscow. She is the second Sri Lankan to enter the final round of IAAF World Athletic Championships after the sprinter, Susanthika Jayasingha.

  • 102 More War Heroes Gifted With New Houses Under 'Api Wenuwen Api' Project


    Making another record phase in the ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ housing projects for war heroes, HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, flanked by a host of distinguished guests,  handed over 102 newly built houses to tri-service heroes at a ceremony in Poramadulla, Nuwara Eliya on Sunday (18) morning. These houses built with ‘Api Wenuwen Api’ funds of the Ministry of Defence are a tribute being extended to the excellence services, rendered by tri- service war heroes for the liberation of the country from terrorism. 57 houses for Army, 27 houses for Navy and 18 houses for Air Force...........
