A group of 25 Army personnel from all island-wide Security Force Headquarters, Division Headquarters and Brigade Headquarters underwent a two-week long course on ‘Search and Rescue Operations’ at Balapitiya, initiated by the Army Directorate of Operations with the cooperation of Department of Sri Lanka Coast Guard and Sri Lanka Navy.
The course syllabus, designed in conformity with the London Life Serving Association standards trained the participants for preparedness against natural disasters, involvement of Security Forces for search and rescue operations, methodologies of approach and attitude and mental disposition of rescuing teams during the times of natural disasters, like the Tsunami, floods, landslides, etc.
Award of proficiency certificates after successful completion of the course took place at Balapitiya Sri Lanka Coast Guard Training School on July 27 during a ceremony, attended by Brigadier Ruwan Kulathunga, Director Operations at the Army Headquarters as the Chief Gust.
A Guard Turn Out presented by those graduates greeted the Chief Guest on arrival soon after he was received by the school’s commandant. A practical session enlightened the day’s attendees before certificates were given away.
Several senior Army and Navy officers, instructors and graduates were present at the event.
